Vietnam – WEF National Strategy Dialogue: Promoting transformation, opening up new growth drivers

On the afternoon of January 16 local time, in Davos, Switzerland, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend and speak at the Vietnam National Strategy Dialogue and the World Economic Forum (WEF) with the theme: "New Development Horizons: Promoting Transformation, Opening Up New Growth Drivers in Vietnam".

The Dialogue was attended by WEF Asia-Pacific Regional Director Joo-Ok Lee and about 60 leaders of global corporations that are WEF members. This is one of eight national dialogue activities held within the framework of the 54th WEF Davos Conference, aiming to introduce Vietnam's socio-economic development strategy, priority areas for attracting investment and specific policies that the Government will implement in the coming time to create an attractive environment for investors.

At the Dialogue, partners were interested in learning about Vietnam's policies in emerging areas such as green transformation, renewable energy development, rare earth mining, semiconductor industry development, carbon credit market, and implementation of Power Plan VIII...

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the theme of the Strategic Dialogue in the context of many difficulties and challenges in the world; thanked the presence of partners at the dialogue, thereby strengthening trust, inspiring and creating motivation for deeper and more effective cooperation with Vietnam.

The Prime Minister affirmed that transforming, searching for and creating new growth drivers is an objective and inevitable trend in today's world; no country or economy, if it still maintains the old mindset and relies only on traditional growth drivers, can develop quickly and sustainably.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that to promote transformation, creation, and opening up new growth drivers, Vietnam will focus on four main groups of solutions.

Firstly, focus on reviewing and perfecting institutions and laws with the spirit of creating the most favorable conditions for businesses and investors.

Second, focus on developing infrastructure, focusing on developing strategic infrastructure, especially transport infrastructure, digital infrastructure, and infrastructure to respond to climate change.

Third, human resource development, focusing on developing high-quality human resources.

Fourth, restructuring the economy associated with growth model innovation, prioritizing the development of renewable energy industries, green transformation, digital transformation, semiconductor industry, and promoting innovation.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam is promoting transformation, including economic transformation, renewing old growth drivers (investment, export, consumption) and promoting new growth drivers; digital transformation, green transformation, developing circular economy, sharing economy, knowledge economy; transformation of mechanisms and policies, building strategic infrastructure for transformation; transformation of human resources.

Along with that, Vietnam persistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, diversified, multilateral foreign policy, being a close friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community; persistently pursues the "four no's" defense policy; firmly protects independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, ensures political stability, social order and safety, maintains a peaceful and stable environment for development; builds an independent and self-reliant economy associated with proactive, active, deep, substantive, and effective international integration, and constantly improves the internal strength and resilience of the economy.

Sharing with WEF and businesses about Vietnam's advantages, the Prime Minister suggested that WEF and its members continue to cooperate with Vietnam; called on investors to join Vietnam in increasing investment in priority areas such as innovation, high technology science, including semiconductor technology and artificial intelligence; affirmed that Vietnam always accompanies and cooperates with investors in the spirit of mutual win-win, mutual benefit, harmonious benefits, and shared risks.

Agreeing with the Prime Minister's comments, WEF leaders and business representatives highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in economic recovery, development, and growth in trade scale, as well as its determination to transform and its economic prospects. They assessed Vietnam as one of the bright spots in economic recovery in the region, playing a pioneering role in transforming the growth model and committing to energy transition.

WEF believes that Vietnam is one of the countries that the business community is most interested in at this Conference. The theme of the National Dialogue was chosen with the belief that Vietnam will continue to maintain positive growth in a more sustainable direction, contributing and playing an increasingly important role in the global economy.

Many businesses affirmed their satisfaction with investment projects in Vietnam; impressed with the Vietnamese Government's drastic policies and measures to create an attractive investment environment, as well as always paying great attention and support to the business community.

The business community believes that Vietnam is one of the most suitable choices, an investment destination and a long-term cooperation opportunity; wishes to continue to support and accompany Vietnam in the development and transformation process; requests that Vietnam continue to share issues that need support and continue to maintain stable, long-term policies.
