FPT has partnered with Pertamina – Indonesia’s national oil and gas corporation, to apply artificial intelligence (AI) to promote innovation in the energy industry.
On March 10, during the State visit to Indonesia by General Secretary To Lam, his wife and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung and Indonesian Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto signed and exchanged a Letter of Intent on science and technology cooperation between the two countries. The signing ceremony took place under the witness of General Secretary To Lam and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
Previously, the two Ministers had a working session to discuss specific contents and possibilities for cooperation. Vietnam and Indonesia share many similarities in development orientation, both aiming to overcome the middle-income trap and become a high-income developed country by 2045. Both countries consider science and technology and digital transformation as key driving forces to create breakthroughs and maintain high growth in the coming time.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed policies to encourage investment, mobilize resources for science and technology development, promote research programs and enhance technology application in economic sectors.
During the visit, many cooperation contracts between enterprises of the two countries were signed in many fields. In the technology industry, FPT and Pertamina – the Indonesian National Oil and Gas Corporation – signed a cooperation agreement to apply artificial intelligence (AI) to promote innovation in the energy sector. This event marked the increasingly deep cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia in technology and energy.
Under the agreement, FPT will provide advanced AI technologies to optimize equipment inspection and maintenance processes at Pertamina’s facilities. The project focuses on two main objectives: improving equipment performance and ensuring worker safety. At the PHE OSES (Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Southeast Sumatra) rig, off the coast of Southeast Sumatra, AI technology developed by FPT and Pertamina Marine Engineering will analyze data from drones to detect abnormalities, leaks, and structural damage, helping to ensure system integrity. Meanwhile, at PDSI (Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia) drilling sites, AI will monitor compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) regulations, contributing to risk mitigation and creating a safer working environment.
FPT CEO Nguyen Van Khoa emphasized: “With our capacity, experience and advanced AI ecosystem, we expect to help Pertamina accelerate the digital transformation process, while contributing to realizing the AI goals in Indonesia’s National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence 2020-2045. This cooperation also opens up opportunities for FPT to expand its expertise not only in the energy sector but also in education, telecommunications and agriculture.”
On this occasion, FPT also announced that it has signed a framework contract worth 67 million USD with KMP Aryadhana, one of Indonesia's leading innovation enterprises. The 5-year agreement focuses on implementing KMP Aryadhana's ESG (environmental - social - corporate governance) initiatives in key areas such as waste management, digital education, cooperative education and digital agriculture to ensure the Food Security program.
This cooperation leverages FPT's strengths in advanced technologies such as AI, blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing, contributing to promoting digital transformation in areas within the ESG framework and education.
