Enterprises and farmers join hands to promote breakthroughs in the shrimp industry

That is the wish of Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Thanh Ngai at the online conference to deploy the plan to develop breakthrough production of the shrimp industry this morning (March 22). Co-chairing the conference were Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su, Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Chau Cong Bang and more than 280 delegates from banking enterprises, non-governmental organizations, investors, enterprises, cooperatives producing, trading, consuming aquatic products and shrimp farmers in the province.

Talking about the strengths of Ca Mau's aquaculture, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su was concerned: Ca Mau is a province with great potential and strengths in developing the shrimp industry; the shrimp farming area is about 280,000 hectares, with 5 main types: industrial shrimp farming (semi-intensive, intensive, super-intensive), improved extensive, shrimp - rice, shrimp - forest and combined extensive farming. By the end of 2024, the shrimp farming output is estimated to reach 242,000 tons, with an export turnover of 1.12 billion USD.

However, the shrimp farming situation in the province still has some limitations, difficulties and challenges. Development planning still has many shortcomings; farming infrastructure has not met requirements; input material supply services, quality, prices are unstable, unhealthy competition, difficult to control; the environment is increasingly degraded, polluted, diseases are difficult to handle; investment attraction mechanisms and policies still have many shortcomings; people and businesses lack capital, have difficulty accessing credit; production organization according to chain linkages is slow to develop, unsustainable; logistics services are still limited, high costs... so competitiveness is low; production and business efficiency is not high, unsustainable.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su is concerned about promoting the potential and strengths of the shrimp industry in Ca Mau.

At the conference, representatives of many seafood companies and enterprises inside and outside the province boldly shared many solutions to apply technical processes; develop cooperatives in each shrimp farming area associated with chain linkage to increase productivity, quality, and shrimp output for two-phase improved extensive shrimp farming and super-intensive shrimp farming. In particular, enterprises focused on shrimp farming solutions towards biosafety, disease-free, environmental safety, improving shrimp quality, and competing with the international market.

The conference attracted a large number of business units in the banking sector; non-governmental organizations, along with investors, enterprises, cooperatives producing, trading, consuming aquatic products and shrimp farmers in the province.

Sharing about the plan to establish, operate and expand the Minh Phu shrimp chain, Mr. Le Van Quang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Minh Phu Group, said that the company will select shrimp farming households who wish to participate in the Minh Phu shrimp chain and commit to raising shrimp properly and sufficiently with MPBiO biotechnology according to the preventive medicine approach and within the shrimp's carrying capacity. For the extensive and improved extensive black tiger shrimp farming chain, Minh Phu will transfer and train shrimp farming cooperatives to record electronic pond diaries using smartphones linked to the database of stages in the chain as a basis for establishing and operating an electronic monitoring and tracing system from finished products before exporting to the pond. In the spirit of cooperation for mutual development and mutual benefit, Minh Phu and shrimp farming cooperatives have a contract clearly binding the responsibilities, obligations and rights of the parties. Minh Phu commits to buy all shrimp from associated shrimp farming cooperatives at a price 5% higher than Minh Phu's daily shrimp purchase price list.

Mr. Le Van Quang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Minh Phu Group, shared the plan to establish, operate and expand the Minh Phu shrimp chain.

Ms. Nguyen Thi My Dung, Aquaculture Business Director of De Heus Vietnam, shared some solutions to promote the development of the shrimp industry in Ca Mau and expressed her desire for cooperation in development.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Thanh Ngai raised the issue of why the province's shrimp industry is known as the "shrimp capital" of the country, but in recent years, the output has stagnated, increased very slowly, and lacked breakthroughs. Export turnover is still struggling at the threshold of 1.1-1.2 million USD. What are the obstacles in the cooperation between enterprises and shrimp farmers that need to be resolved? Why are shrimp farmers still not interested in applying scientific and technological advances in production? To resolve these issues, it is necessary to have the cooperation of all sectors and levels, most of all, local seafood enterprises supporting the locality, joining hands with people to accompany production, and increase the value of shrimp.

At the conference, companies and businesses introduced aquaculture technology products to delegates, cooperatives and shrimp farmers.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested all levels, sectors and localities to propagate shrimp farmers to change their awareness and thinking in production, actively participate in economic models to create stable raw material areas. Comply with technical processes in shrimp farming, ensuring clean and quality shrimp. Focus on removing production infrastructure, reorganizing production, linking product consumption. Timely remove difficulties and obstacles in the process of cooperation and association between enterprises and cooperatives and people, ensuring harmony of interests, promoting the advantages of Ca Mau shrimp, contributing to achieving the province's economic growth target of over 8% in 2025.
