Condolences on the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

Upon hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing, many countries have sent telegrams/letters of condolences to the Party, State, people of Vietnam and the family of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong.

Upon hearing the news of the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction and the Lao People; the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese People; Chairman of the Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet, Chairman of the National Assembly of Cambodia Khuon Sodary; General Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz Canel-Bermúdez, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (the Upper House of the Russian Federation) Valentina Matvienko; Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation (the lower house of the Russian parliament) Vyacheslav Volodin sent condolences to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Vietnamese People. The full text of the condolences is as follows:

(i) The Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction, and the Lao people would like to express their deepest condolences upon hearing the news that Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, passed away on July 19, 2024.

With the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, the Party, the State and the Vietnamese people have lost a steadfast revolutionary leader. Throughout his life of revolutionary activities, Comrade devoted all his efforts and intelligence to important tasks in the cause of national liberation, national reunification and the renovation of the Communist Party of Vietnam, especially the work of building and rectifying a strong and clean Party, as well as the work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity, bringing Vietnam to continuous development, and significantly enhancing Vietnam's position in the international and regional arenas. Comrade has become an outstanding leader of the times.

With the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, the Lao Party, State and people have lost a very close and dear comrade.

Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is a revolutionary leader in the new era, the successor of President Ho Chi Minh, making a great, valuable and important contribution to strengthening and nurturing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of Laos - Vietnam, Vietnam - Laos over the past time.

In this moment of grief, we would like to express our deepest condolences to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Vietnamese People and their families.

We believe that the Party, State and People of Vietnam will turn their sorrow into the strength of national unity to continue to move forward, build Vietnam into an industrialized and modernized country and achieve the goal of a rich people, strong country, democracy, equality and civilization.

(ii) Upon hearing the news of the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people have lost a good comrade, a good brother, and a good friend. We deeply regret and send our deepest condolences and most sincere regards to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the State and the People of Vietnam.

Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is a staunch Marxist and a great leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people. He has devoted his whole life to the cause of the Party and the State of Vietnam, making outstanding contributions to the cause of renovation and the cause of building socialism in Vietnam as well as the socialist movement in the world.

Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is a close comrade and sincere friend of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people. He has inherited and promoted the traditional friendship of "both comrades and brothers" between the two Parties and the two countries of China and Vietnam, forging a deep friendship with the Communist Party of China and the Chinese leaders. Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, together with General Secretary Xi Jinping, elevated the China-Vietnam relationship to a Community of Shared Future of strategic significance, promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Vietnam to continuously move forward. The Party, State and People of China will forever remember Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong.

We believe that the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people will turn pain into strength, inherit the will of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, unite, strive, and gain even greater new achievements in the cause of innovation and building socialism.

China and Vietnam are two socialist neighboring countries connected by mountains and rivers, and are a Community of Shared Future of strategic significance. (iii) In the letter from President of the Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen to President To Lam, it is written:

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, on July 19, 2024.

The passing of the General Secretary is a great loss to the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and more importantly, to the entire Vietnamese people. The legacy of the General Secretary, a wise leader who devoted his entire life to the struggle for Vietnam’s independence and for the peace and prosperity of the Vietnamese people, will be remembered by many future generations.

Under the leadership of Comrade General Secretary, Comrade General Secretary has consolidated the strong fraternal friendship with Cambodia and persistently made efforts over the years to enhance close cooperation not only between the Cambodian People's Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam, but also between the two Governments and peoples of our two countries.

On behalf of the Cambodian People's Party and the Cambodian people, allow me to send my deepest and most sincere condolences to you, and especially to the family of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, at this extremely sad moment.

On the same day, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet sent a letter of condolences to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The letter read:

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause of the Communist Party of Vietnam, for the peace, development and prosperity of Vietnam. Vietnam has lost an outstanding leader, and Cambodia has lost a good friend who has always strived to contribute to the brotherly relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

President of the Cambodian National Assembly Khuon Sodary also sent a letter of condolences to President of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man. The letter reads:

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is an outstanding leader with profound vision and great dedication, having made a huge impact on Vietnam's socio-economic development and institutional modernization. The passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a great loss not only to Vietnam but also to all those who had the honor to know the General Secretary.

We are deeply grateful for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's tireless dedication to promoting the strong relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia and his important role in bringing the two countries closer together.

(iv) Letter from General Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz Canel-Bermúdez to President To Lam stated:

Upon the news of the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, we would like to send our deepest condolences to Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong's family and the Vietnamese people.

The passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is an irreparable loss for Cuba. Cuba will always remember Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong as a great brother, a tireless promoter of the special friendship between our two Parties, two National Assemblies, two Governments and peoples.

Dear friend Nguyen Phu Trong will be remembered by generations of Cubans as a pillar in the long-standing traditional friendship between our two countries and as a great brother, always ready to extend a hand of solidarity to Cuba in the most complex and challenging circumstances.

In this moment of profound sorrow, we recall the important visit to Cuba by Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong in March 2018, and especially the memorable moments during his trip to the city of Santiago de Cuba to pay homage to his friend and the historic Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.

The life and career of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong are invaluable legacies for future generations. His contributions to the role of the Communist Party, his creative application of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, and his vision of international relations in the current context are outstanding contributions to the cause of building Socialism in Vietnam. This will be reflected in new victories in the Doi Moi process in Vietnam, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

We are fully confident that the personal example, intellectual legacy and political career of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong will be an invaluable source of encouragement for all efforts of the Vietnamese people.

We would like to reiterate to Comrade To Lam our support and solidarity, along with our steadfast will to continue strengthening the unbreakable brotherly relationship that connects Cuba and Vietnam.

(v) Letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin to President To Lam wrote:

Upon hearing of the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, I would like to send you my deepest condolences.

Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong has devoted his entire life to serving the Fatherland. Through many years of working in important positions of the State and the Party, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong has received the deep respect of the Vietnamese people and has great prestige in the international arena. Russia will remember the General Secretary as a true friend who has made great personal contributions to the establishment and development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Moscow and Hanoi.

I have had many opportunities to meet that wonderful man and will always have an impression of the General Secretary. I would like to ask you to convey my sincere condolences and encouragement to the General Secretary's family, relatives and to all the Vietnamese people.

In the condolence message of the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (the Upper House of the Russian Federation) Valentina Matvienko to the Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, she wrote: I am deeply saddened to receive the news of the passing of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong. A great friend of Russia, an experienced political activist, a famous state leader has passed away. In his highest state position, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has made many contributions to strengthening the Vietnam - Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as cooperation between the two countries' National Assemblies.

The condolence letter of the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (the lower house of the Russian parliament) Vyacheslav Volodin wrote: It is difficult to fully appreciate the great contributions of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong to strengthening the friendly relations between the Russian Federation and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. On behalf of the deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, please allow me to convey my condolences to the family and relatives of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong.
