Pangasius exports to the UAE market grow strongly. Vietnamese pangasius conquers more than 140 markets worldwide.

According to Vietnam Customs, in the second quarter of 2024, Vietnam's pangasius exports to China and Hong Kong (China) reached 146 million USD, up 6.5% over the same period in 2023. Of which, the Hong Kong (China) market alone imported more than 7 million USD of pangasius from Vietnam, down 11% over the same period last year.

China and Hong Kong (China) continue to be the largest markets for Vietnamese pangasius, contributing 28% to the total value of Vietnam's exports to markets. June 2024 is the month with the highest export turnover of Vietnamese pangasius to China and Hong Kong (China) since the beginning of this year, with nearly 56 million USD, up 16% compared to June 2023.

Consumers in this market often prefer frozen pangasius fillet products from Vietnam, with more than 36 million USD consumed in June 2024, an increase of 8% over the same period in 2023. In the second quarter of 2024, exports of frozen pangasius fillets HS 0304 to China and Hong Kong (China) reached 92 million USD, an increase of 1% over the same period in 2023.

June 2024 is the month when Vietnam's pangasius export turnover to China and Hong Kong (China) reached the highest level since the beginning of this year.

In the first half of this year, frozen pangasius fillet exports to China and Hong Kong (China) reached over 158 million USD, down 17% over the same period, accounting for 61% of total pangasius exports to this market. In addition, exports of other pangasius products to China and Hong Kong (China) also grew significantly.

In the first 6 months of this year, exports of dried pangasius and other frozen products (whole, cut, bladder,...) reached nearly 100 million USD, up 11% over the same period; value-added pangasius exports reached 508 thousand USD, up 24% over the same period last year.

The average export price of Vietnamese pangasius to China in the first half of this year decreased by 7-18% compared to the same period in 2023. Although the export price decreased, the export volume of pangasius products to China in the first half of this year still grew steadily by 34%, mainly due to growth in the second quarter of 2024.

China's slowing economy has made consumers more cautious and hesitant in spending, forcing the country's importers to focus on cheaper items. With cheaper prices than some domestic fish species such as carp, tilapia, snakehead fish, pangasius is more popular and has a firmer foothold in this country.
