According to information from the National Academy of Public Administration, on November 5, the opening ceremony of the Eastern World Organization of Public Administration Conference - EROPA 2024 with the theme: "Towards a world-class administration" was held at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Previously, on the afternoon of November 4, the 69th EROPA Executive Council held a meeting to review the year's performance, discuss and decide on issues related to strategic orientation and organizational development, expand and strengthen the membership network, approve the organization's operational programs and adopt the EROPA Conference program in 2024.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ba Chien, Director of the National Academy of Public Administration (Vietnam), Chairman of the EROPA Executive Council chaired the meeting.
Attending the meeting were representatives of the EROPA Executive Council; Heads of EROPA state-level member delegations from the following countries: Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Nepal, Japan, Philippines, Thailand; a number of representatives of organizational and individual members; delegates from administrative associations in the region.

In his opening remarks, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ba Chien, Chairman of the EROPA Executive Council, welcomed delegates to the EROPA 2024 Conference and the 69th EROPA Executive Council Meeting. The Chairman of the EROPA Executive Council declared the meeting open and encouraged delegates to exchange and discuss cooperation methods among EROPA members, develop EROPA into a more effective and stronger organization, affirm its leading role in the region in public administration, and contribute to the reform and sustainable development process in the Asia-Pacific region.
At the meeting, the Heads of State-level delegations presented Messages from member countries, thereby expressing their views on improving the effectiveness of public administration, expressing their commitment to the goals and vision of EROPA, promoting regional and international cooperation to realize the common goals of EROPA, and promoting the development of science and practice of public administration in the region.
Representing the Vietnamese delegation, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ba Chien, Director of the National Academy of Public Administration, Head of the Vietnamese delegation, presented Vietnam's message. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ba Chien emphasized: Since its establishment in 1960, along with the growth of the organization itself, the influence of EROPA on the development of public management in the region has been increasingly affirmed through valuable contributions in the fields of research cooperation, development of public management science, sharing of practical experiences and effective management models; contributing to shaping and improving the quality of public administration in member countries, creating a favorable environment for sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
The EROPA 2024 Conference with the theme “Towards a world-class administration”, along with the sub-themes identified for the activities of this Conference, once again demonstrates the spirit of close cooperation and the unity of will of scholars, public administrators, organizations and individuals who are members of EROPA. “Building a world-class administration” is not only an ideal goal but also a practical requirement, a method of action for a professional and modern civil service in each member country, contributing to improving the quality of life of the people and promoting sustainable socio-economic development.

According to the meeting agenda, delegates discussed the proposal to establish an EROPA Training Center in Vietnam. As Director of the National Academy of Public Administration, a state-level member of EROPA, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ba Chien presented the proposal to establish an EROPA Training Center in Vietnam.
This proposal of Vietnam received the attention and support of the Heads of Delegations of EROPA member countries. The delegates discussed the organizational structure and operation method of the EROPA Training Center in Vietnam.
Some outstanding activities and events carried out by EROPA from October 2023 to November 2024:
Coordinate with the National Academy of Public Administration (Vietnam) to organize the 68th Governing Council, meeting, conference and the 29th EROPA General Assembly on “The role of Public Administration in socio-economic recovery and development towards sustainable development goals” from October 16 to 20, 2023 in Hanoi, Vietnam;
Launching the 31st issue of the Asian Public Administration Review (ARPA) with articles focusing on sharing the response experiences of countries to the Covid-19 pandemic, including: Bangladesh, China, India, Nepal, South Korea, Vietnam, and the United States;
Co-organize the Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop on Assessing Standards of Excellence in Public Administration Education and Training in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the International Association of Schools of Public Administration (IASIA) on November 3, 2024;
Prof. Dr. Alex Brillantes participated as a keynote speaker at the workshop organized by the Vietnam National Academy of Public Administration with the theme "Building Future-Ready Civil Servants: International Experiences and Implications for ASEAN Countries" within the framework of the activities of the Southeast Asian Public Service Training Institutions Network (PSTI) organized on December 22, 2023;
Co-host and represent the Asia-Pacific region at the Mayors Forum and Ministerial Roundtable discussion of the World Government Summit 2024 to be held on 12-14 February 2024 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates;
Improve the operations and service delivery of the EROPA Secretariat such as publications, the EROPA website to enhance the presence of EROPA in the public administration community.
