“I always wanted to play in Serie A,” said De Gea. “As soon as I heard about Fiorentina, I immediately liked the club. Everything happened very quickly and I am really happy here.”

Before making his final decision, De Gea revealed that he had a conversation with Marcos Alonso, a close friend who used to play at Fiorentina. “I called Marcos. He said a lot of good things about the club, the fans and the city. I had my mind made up, and Marcos' words made me even more certain,” De Gea said.

At 34, De Gea has proven himself to be one of the standout players for Fiorentina. The team is just three points away from qualifying for next season's European Cup. This achievement is partly thanks to De Gea's consistency. He currently has nine clean sheets in Serie A, making him one of the top seven most effective goalkeepers in the league.

Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino was full of praise for De Gea: "He reacted and saved like he was 20 years old. I feel that great unity and team spirit have been created. The form of players like De Gea gives the whole team more confidence."

Fiorentina are very pleased with De Gea's performance and are ready to extend his contract. Gazzetta said the Italian club could increase De Gea's salary in the new contract.
