New milestone in Vietnam-Cuba relations

The upcoming State visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to the Republic of Cuba will continue to consolidate and enhance the solidarity, special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.

According to VNA, President of Cuba's Latin American News Agency (Prensa Latina), Luis Enrique Gonzalez Acosta, assessed that Vietnam and Cuba have a special, historic relationship and the visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to Cuba will be a new milestone in the relationship between the two brotherly nations, continuing the traditional friendship founded by President Ho Chi Minh and President Fidel Castro. Looking back over the entire length of bilateral relations, from the historic visit in 1973 of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro - the first head of state to visit the southern battlefield of Vietnam; the first visit to Vietnam by General Raul Castro to later visits, Mr. Luis Enrique commented that each time the leaders of the two countries visit the brotherly country half a world away is a new step forward contributing to further consolidating the friendship, an opportunity for the leaders of the two countries to meet and discuss ways to further promote bilateral cooperation. Mr. Luis Enrique said that the political and diplomatic relations between Cuba and Vietnam are at a very high level; at the same time, he affirmed that the visit of General Secretary and President To Lam will contribute to raising the level of bilateral economic and trade relations. On this occasion, the two countries identified new areas of cooperation. Cuba can promote investment in important products or services in Vietnam, while Vietnam is one of Cuba's main trade partners in Asia and has initially reaped sweet fruits in cooperation and investment in the agricultural sector in Cuba's Mariel special zone. He emphasized: "I believe that with this visit, we can identify new areas in which Vietnam can invest and support the Cuban economy". Mr. Luis Enrique was moved to express: "We are geographically far apart, but talking about Vietnam and Cuba means talking about brothers. Personally, I feel this sentiment when visiting Vietnam. When I come to Vietnam and say that I am Cuban, I almost become a compatriot". For those reasons, Mr. Luis Enrique believes that the relationship between the two peoples is a solid foundation for the future development of Cuba-Vietnam friendship.
