Together with the regular army, the militia and reserve forces, in recent years, the Coal Industry Self-Defense Force has been established and has grown steadily; making an important contribution to ensuring the safety and development of production for the Coal Industry in particular, and local military and defense work in general; deserving the title of "steel shield" of the Quang Ninh Mining Region.
As a unit under the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV), in recent years, the Military Command of Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company has always been a bright spot in implementing local military and defense work. For many consecutive years, this has been a typical unit in implementing the Emulation Movement to Win of the Quang Ninh Armed Forces. In 2024, the unit was awarded a certificate of merit by the Provincial People's Committee for its outstanding achievements.
During the year, the Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company's self-defense force actively improved the quality of training contents; strictly maintained on-duty work, and combat readiness to protect the unit's production and business activities. In particular, participating in competitions, sports, and exercises all achieved high results (second prize for the self-defense force at the Military Shooting Competition of the regular army and militia; second prize for the entire delegation at the Military Region 3 National Defense Sports Competition...).
“Not only focusing on combat training, the company's Military Command has consulted with the unit's leaders to actively respond to movements of gratitude, building new rural areas, visiting and giving gifts to policy beneficiaries. Since the beginning of the year, the unit has subsidized 49 million VND for disabled children, victims of Agent Orange, and children in difficult circumstances; given gifts worth a total of 218 million VND to war invalids, children of war invalids, sick soldiers, and martyrs; sponsored policy families at a rate of 500,000 VND/person/month...” - Mr. Nguyen Hoang Dao, Deputy Commander of the Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company's Self-Defense Battalion, shared.
Together with Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company, the Coal industry's self-defense forces in the units have been taking the lead in production emulation movements, associated with maintaining training and high combat readiness; mobilizing forces and means to coordinate in protecting production, maintaining order and security; preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, preventing fires and explosions, responding promptly to situations when ordered, or according to local task requirements. At the same time, they regularly coordinate to organize combat drills to protect agencies and units, participate in provincial and district defense zone drills and perform military and defense tasks when necessary.
In 2024, the Coal Industry's self-defense units actively participated in training on 82mm mortars, DKZ, 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine guns, and 37mm anti-aircraft artillery. They participated in the Military Shooting Competition at Regiment 244, consisting of 14 battalions with 230 officers and soldiers; participated in the Military Region 3 National Defense Sports Festival and had individuals winning gold, silver, and bronze medals; participated in the Square Star Gameshow following Uncle Ho's words and won second prize for the entire group.
The units coordinated with the Provincial Military Command to conduct surveys, preliminary selection, medical examinations, and management of young men leaving for military service to ensure 100% of them meet local targets. At the same time, they implemented well the military rear policies, such as forming friendships, visiting and giving gifts to policy beneficiaries, supporting Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; and contributed funds to support the construction of new rural areas to build a road in Na Tao village, Dong Tam commune (Binh Lieu district) with a total cost of 1.2 billion VND.
Mr. Pham Van Khoi, Deputy Commander of the TKV Military Command, said: In order to improve the activities of the Coal Industry's self-defense force, TKV directs agencies and units to promote education and training in national defense and security knowledge for the subjects; regularly improve the military command, the team of officers in charge of national defense work, command the self-defense forces at all levels, and ensure the number and quality of the reserve mobilization force. The Group proactively balances the budget to ensure on-site logistics; organizes the purchase of self-defense and security uniforms, support tools, and ensures necessary conditions. Military command at all levels proactively improves the quality of selection and calling workers to join the army; welcomes and cares about arranging stable jobs for workers who have completed their service and returned...
The Coal Industry Self-Defense Force has grown steadily, to date there are over 5,100 self-defense officers and soldiers organized into 14 battalions, 6 companies under the Provincial Military Command; 5 companies, 20 platoons and 3 squads under districts, towns and cities. This force has made an important contribution to strengthening national defense and security, building a comprehensively strong foundation, meeting the requirements and tasks of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.
