The main growth driver came from the large Chinese market with an increase of 78.3% over the same period last year. Meanwhile, other major markets increased positively: Korea (+2.2%), Taiwan (+10.2%), the US (+11.3%), Japan (+26.3%), Australia (11.0%), India (23.3%).
Nearby markets in Southeast Asia grew well, including Cambodia (+105.6%), Philippines (+95.1%), Laos (+52.7%), Indonesia (+6.9%), Thailand (+4.7%).
European markets continued to grow by double digits, especially markets enjoying unilateral visa exemption policies such as: UK (+23.5%), France (+28.3%), Germany (+23.3%), Italy (+29.0%), Spain (+17.5%), Denmark (+17.6%), Sweden (+18.7%), Norway (+16.0%). In particular, the Russian market grew strongly (+110.5%).
In addition, the Polish and Swiss markets also recorded an increase in the number of visitors, up 52.9% and 14.1% respectively compared to the same period in 2024. This is the result of the Government's issuance of Resolution 11/NQ-CP on short-term visa exemption for Polish, Czech and Swiss citizens from March 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025 under the 2025 Tourism Development Stimulus Program. This policy is expected to create momentum to attract more visitors from these three European markets in 2025.
Following the 98% recovery of international visitors in 2024, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2025 reached over 6 million, an increase of 134% over the same period in 2019. This is also the highest number of international visitors in a quarter ever. In order to realize the goal of welcoming 22-23 million international visitors this year, the tourism industry is focusing on vigorously implementing the 2025 tourism stimulus program launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as well as innovating promotion methods, advertising, improving service quality, and increasing the attractiveness of Vietnam's tourism products and destinations.
