On the morning of April 8, at Bach Dang Wharf, 15 ceremonial cannons were fired in preparation for the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. This event attracted a large number of people in Ho Chi Minh City.
Each cannon weighs about 4 tons and is transported from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City. Each 105mm cannon requires 6 soldiers to move it.
These days, the atmosphere at Bach Dang wharf area becomes bustling as locals and international tourists flock to admire and take pictures with the fireworks display.
At about 8 o'clock, the military forces prepared to fire for training.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (51 years old, District 1) shared: "I have never seen such a large array of cannons. It is not only an art event but also a part of history. I feel very proud that the city has exhibitions like this to educate the younger generation about the past".
Ms. Le Mai (37 years old, Can Tho City) shared: "I am very impressed with this array of cannons. It is not only a symbol of strength but also a testament to the resilience of the Vietnamese people. I think everyone should come here to feel and learn more about the history of the country".
Not only Ho Chi Minh City residents, many foreign tourists passing through the artillery area were excited and delighted to see the equipment of the Vietnamese Army.
The artillery team consisted of 233 officers and soldiers of Brigade 96. The brigade also prepared a fence with 250 columns and carpets about 90m long; the artillery position had to be placed on a flat, sturdy surface so that when fired, it would create a uniform explosion sound.
In addition, within the framework of the April 30th celebration, there will be many fireworks display locations to serve the people, expected to be arranged at the beginning of the Saigon River tunnel (Thu Duc City); the Ben Duoc Martyrs Memorial Temple (Cu Chi District); the Nga Ba Giong Martyrs Memorial Area (Hoc Mon District); the Lang Le - Bau Co relic site (Binh Chanh District); the Can Gio District football field; the National Historical - Cultural Park (Thu Duc City); and the Dam Sen Cultural Park (District 11).
According to the plan, in the 50th Anniversary of National Reunification Day, the artillery force will use 18 105mm cannons (15 official cannons, 3 reserve cannons) to celebrate the event. The program includes firing 21 cannon shots to the National Anthem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
In addition, the air force will use helicopters, YAK-130, SU-30MK2, to fly the welcome.
Currently, people are allowed to take souvenir photos with the cannons but are not allowed to approach the cannon area.
During the artillery installation, some roads will be closed to traffic from 9pm to midnight or 3am the following day, starting from April 7 to April 26. On April 27 and 30, the battle area will be restricted to traffic during the day.
