At the Youth Volunteers Memorial Site (Ben Cau District, Tay Ninh Province), Mr. Le Minh Khoa - Party Secretary, Commander of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Volunteers - and delegates offered incense and recalled the heroic memories and history of the Youth Volunteers who heroically sacrificed their lives on the battlefield at the Southwest border - Cambodia.

On April 30, 1975, not long after liberation and unification, in April 1977, Pol Pot's army invaded the southwestern border provinces.

The Youth Volunteers who were participating in production labor in suburban districts volunteered to go to the battlefield, fighting side by side with the soldiers.

The Youth Volunteer Force performed both logistical and engineering duties and directly fought against enemy sieges and ambushes.

From September 1978 to September 1979, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Volunteer Force had about 10,000 cadres and members participating in combat service.

During that war, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Volunteer Force had 99 heroic cadres and members sacrificed their lives and nearly 200 cadres and members of the Youth Volunteer Force left part of their bodies on the battlefield of the Southwestern border - Cambodia.

Standing in front of the memorial site for the heroes of the Youth Volunteer Force, Ms. Thai Thi Hanh, former deputy captain of the 3rd Border Team, was moved:

"During the time of participating in combat service and fighting on the southwestern border battlefield of the Border Brigade 3, 99 Youth Volunteer cadres and members were sacrificed and hundreds of other cadres and members were injured.

Today, coming here to burn incense, we feel sad and emotional. I remember my comrades who used to work together, dig the ground and go to the battlefield.

The Youth Volunteer Force does many public service activities.

Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union participates in public service activities and public services in Ho Chi Minh City, including managing more than 7,000 hectares of protective forest in Can Gio district.

Coordinate with the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police to maintain traffic order, organize parking on roads and sidewalks according to regulations, support and protect tourist destinations in Ho Chi Minh City, and manage Binh Khanh and Cat Lai ferries.

At the same time, it is a unit managing drug addicts, including drug rehabilitation facilities No. 1, 2, 3 in the provinces and Nhi Xuan drug rehabilitation facility (Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City).
