Within the framework of the official visit to India from June 17 to 20 at the invitation of Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, on the afternoon of June 19, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of Defense led a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense to pay a courtesy visit to Indian President Droupadi Murmu.

On this occasion, Minister Phan Van Giang sent his condolences and deepest sympathies to the victims and relatives of those affected in the recent serious railway accident in the Indian state of Odisha.

Minister Phan Van Giang affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with India, which was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and has been diligently cultivated by generations of leaders and people of the two countries. Since the official establishment of diplomatic relations, the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries have always been of interest and promoted by leaders of both sides and are developing strongly, increasingly expanding in many fields and going into depth, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries, in which the Vietnam-India defense cooperation has been of interest and promoted, becoming an important pillar in the overall comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Minister Phan Van Giang informed President Droupadi Murmu of the results of his previous talks with Minister Rajnath Singh. Accordingly, the two sides agreed to evaluate the results of defense cooperation in the past and the direction of defense cooperation in the future. Minister Phan Van Giang expressed his hope to receive the attention and active support of President Droupadi Murmu so that the two countries' defense ministries can further promote the friendly relationship, understanding and mutual trust.

Minister Phan Van Giang also visited and encouraged the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in India. Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai informed the Minister about the preliminary situation of Vietnam-India relations in recent years.

Speaking to the officers and staff of the Embassy, the Minister informed about some aspects of the socio-economic situation in the country, as well as about defense diplomacy in general and Vietnam - India defense diplomacy in particular.
*During the visit of Minister Phan Van Giang, the Navy Commanders and Air Force Commanders of the two countries had separate meetings to specify the content of cooperation.
