General Phan Van Giang praised the cadres, employees and workers for their efforts to overcome difficulties, successfully complete their tasks, ensure the progress and quality of the construction of the new Phong Chau bridge and operate the pontoon bridge in absolute safety.

The Minister of National Defense requested the 12th Army Corps to increase its forces, vehicles, machinery, and modern equipment to ensure the best quality of construction; work overtime, increase shifts, speed up construction progress, and soon put the project into operation to serve the people's travel needs.

The Corps leaders need to strengthen inspection, supervision, and timely motivate officers, employees, and workers to overcome difficulties; ensure absolute security and safety for people and vehicles.

General Phan Van Giang also requested the 12th Corps to closely coordinate with relevant units to remove difficulties and obstacles; continue to uphold responsibility, high solidarity, make efforts to overcome difficulties, and bring the project to the finish line ahead of schedule to welcome the 12th Party Congress of the Army.

The new Phong Chau Bridge construction investment project is approximately 652.88m long. The starting point is in Phung Nguyen commune, Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province; the ending point is in Van Xuan commune, Tam Nong district, Phu Tho province.

The project has a total investment of 635,392 billion VND; Thang Long Project Management Board was assigned as the project investor.

Corps 12 (Truong Son Construction Corporation) was assigned to construct the new Phong Chau Bridge. The unit organized the construction with overtime, extra shifts, during holidays and Tet. Up to now, the construction unit has ensured compliance with the requirements and progress of the project; some items have exceeded the requirements and progress set forth.

The 249th Engineering Brigade (Engineering Corps) was assigned to operate the Phong Chau pontoon bridge and ensured all aspects of operation, ensuring absolute safety for people and vehicles.

The bridge is constructed using reinforced concrete beams and prestressed reinforced concrete. The main bridge consists of 3 continuous beam spans, balanced cantilever, reinforced concrete abutments and piers, and bored pile foundation. The road connecting the two ends of the bridge ensures the scale of a level III plain road, with a design speed of 80km/h.

At the request of the Prime Minister, on December 22, the 12th Army Corps must complete and organize the inauguration ceremony of the new Phong Chau bridge.

Previously, on September 9, 2024, Phong Chau Bridge collapsed, causing 2 spans of the bridge to fall into the Red River. The incident caused 10 vehicles (1 truck, 2 tractor-trailers, 6 motorbikes, 1 electric motorbike) to fall into the river, 8 people missing.
