On November 12, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University - signed a decision to promulgate the structure of the capacity assessment test of Ho Chi Minh City National University to be applied from 2025.

How will the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam be from 2025?

The structure of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment test from 2025 will still include 3 parts, but will be adjusted compared to the current test, focusing mainly on the problem-solving part.

Accordingly, from 2025, the structure of the competency assessment test of Ho Chi Minh City National University will maintain the structure of the language and mathematics sections, while increasing the number of questions in these two sections to increase the reliability and discrimination of the test.

The logic section - data analysis and problem solving - is restructured into a scientific thinking section to assess candidates' ability in logic and scientific reasoning when solving real-life situations in the fields of science, technology, economics and society.

The questions in the scientific thinking section are designed to provide information, data, facts, experimental planning, and experimental results, thereby requiring candidates to demonstrate their ability to understand and apply information, determine experimental results, and predict laws.

The competency assessment test from 2025 will still include 120 objective multiple-choice questions with 150 minutes to complete and will be conducted on paper. The test results will be determined by modern multiple-choice methods according to the question response theory. The score of each question will be weighted differently depending on the difficulty of the question.

The test score is converted by section. The maximum score of the test is 1,200 points, in which the maximum score for each component of the test is shown on the score sheet including: Vietnamese is 300 points, English is 300 points; mathematics is 300 points and scientific thinking is 300 points.

There are expected to be 2 competency assessment exams in 2025.

According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh - Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment of Ho Chi Minh City National University, the structure and content of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment test from 2025 have many similarities with international standardized tests such as the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) of the United States, Psychometric Entrance Test (PET) of Israel and General Aptitude Test (GAT) of Thailand...

"In other words, this exam aims to accurately assess students' overall abilities, helping universities and colleges recruit suitable candidates; at the same time, ensuring fairness and creating equal opportunities in accessing higher education for all candidates, even when they choose different subjects in high school.

"The approach to this exam is also consistent with the combined admission orientation of member units of Ho Chi Minh City National University," Mr. Chinh shared.

In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University will continue to organize the V-ACT, with two scheduled exams on March 30 and June 1 in 25 provinces/cities, similar to 2024.

After 7 years of implementation, from 2018 to 2024, the V-ACT exam has become a reliable admission method, contributing to improving the quality of admission not only at Ho Chi Minh City National University but also at many universities and colleges across the country.

In 2024, the V-ACT exam expanded to 26 provinces/cities, attracting nearly 107,000 candidates (an increase of more than 21 times compared to 2018) and more than 100 universities and colleges used the exam results for admission. The V-ACT exam helped Ho Chi Minh City National University recruit more than 9,200 students, accounting for more than 38% of the enrollment target for 2024.

Ho Chi Minh City National University does not organize competency assessment exams

According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, with the goal of selecting learners with good capacity, suitable for the characteristics of training programs, suitable for educational philosophy and comprehensive training requirements, since 2018, Ho Chi Minh City National University has organized the V-ACT exam.

The V-ACT exam is implemented in the form of objective, paper-based tests; organized simultaneously in many localities, creating favorable conditions for candidates to participate. The results of the V-ACT exam are highly reliable, trusted and used by many higher education institutions nationwide to serve university admissions.

Taking the V-ACT exam helps candidates have more opportunities to be admitted to the major and school that suits their abilities. In addition, the exam also introduces a new approach to competency assessment, contributing to better orientation for high school students, helping students learn and practice more effectively the important skills to continue studying at higher levels.

"The Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment is assigned by Ho Chi Minh City National University to be in charge of related tasks of the V-ACT exam. The Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment of Ho Chi Minh City National University does not organize test preparation, nor is it affiliated with any organization or individual related to V-ACT test preparation activities.

Any act of impersonating or using images or logos of the V-ACT exam, Ho Chi Minh City National University and the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment to promote exam preparation is illegal," Mr. Chinh emphasized.
