Comrade Duong Thi My Diem, Secretary, Chairman of Phuoc Diem Commune People's Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee of the 2024 Traditional Dragon Boat Racing Festival, said that in order to organize a festival imbued with the unique cultural traditions of fishermen in coastal areas, the local authorities of Phuoc Diem and Ca Na communes have closely coordinated, developed plans, assigned specific tasks to each member, issued regulations and competition rules, and strengthened propaganda work to create high consensus among the people to preserve, conserve and develop the unique festival in the locality. At the same time, assigned forces and organizations to participate in ensuring security, order, traffic safety, increasing waste collection, maintaining environmental sanitation, decorating, and setting up a solemn and economical stage.

In addition, before the traditional dragon boat racing activity according to the customs of fishermen in the coastal area took place, Mr. Nguyen Van Gioi, Head of the Van Lach Ca Na Tomb Ritual Committee shared that from early morning on the 3rd day of the lunar calendar, members and prestigious elders in the village gathered at Van Lach Tomb to carefully prepare incense, flowers, fruits, solemn worship procedures and rituals, lion dance and dragon dance performances to respectfully offer to the gods, express deep gratitude to the ancestors and ask for permission to open the canal to pray for national peace and prosperity, favorable weather, bountiful crops and fishermen to set out at the beginning of the year with lots of sea luck, full holds of fish and shrimp, and for every family to have a peaceful, prosperous and happy life in the new year.

Then, at exactly 12 noon (Ngo hour), the Incense Ceremony Committee held a ceremony at the Dragon Boat Racing Platform at Phuoc Diem-Ca Na embankment. The Organizing Committee set up buoys to mark the racing track for the competing boat teams, beat the drums to start the festival so that the boat racing teams could row out to sea to welcome Ong; at the same time, they organized 9 performances of dance and singing to create a vibrant atmosphere to attract thousands of people and tourists to gather here to cheer before the boat teams competed. When the auspicious time came, the Organizing Committee let the team captains draw lots to choose the first racing position and wait for the starting order from the western buoy to the east, row around to the left and then return to the starting point.
At exactly 3:00 p.m., 4 boat racing teams including Lac Tan 1, Lac Tan 2-3 (Phuoc Diem commune), Lac Nghiep and Lac Son (Ca Na) took their official positions to compete dramatically. Each team had 18 crew members selected from healthy, skilled, and steady-handed young men to compete in 4 races, each 500m. During the boat racing, thousands of locals and tourists witnessed the teams competing in a martial spirit, coordinating rowing beautifully, demonstrating the strong strength of fishermen in the coastal area to control the boat to quickly surf the waves to the finish line; along with the sound of drums, cheers, and enthusiastic encouragement of the audience, it created a very exciting and bustling atmosphere throughout the sea. After 4 exciting competitions of the rowers, this year's results were that the boat teams of Lac Tan 1 and Lac Son villages won the first prize; Lac Nghiep won the second prize; Lac Tan 2-3 won the third prize.

In the coming time, the local government and people hope that the district and provincial leaders will pay attention to investing in and upgrading the traditional dragon boat racing festival of coastal fishermen to the district or provincial level in order to preserve and promote the values and unique cultural beauty of coastal fishermen; create a useful playground, exchange and share experiences in the process of labor, production, and offshore seafood exploitation, strengthen the spirit of solidarity and neighborliness of fishermen to contribute to building an increasingly rich and civilized homeland; at the same time, gradually improve the spiritual and cultural life associated with the development of marine tourism to match the development of the southern key economic zone of the province that is taking shape in the future and join the local fishing festival that has been included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
