Mr. Natsuo Nakajima, 87 years old, in Minoo City, Osaka Prefecture (Japan), donated 29kg of gold and 1kg of platinum with a total value of up to 280 million yen (nearly 2 million USD) to the city government to serve the people.
On the afternoon of June 20, the Minoo City government held a ceremony to receive this special gift. Mr. Nakajima said he wanted to give the city part of the wealth he had accumulated over the past half century. He hoped that the government would use this wealth to buy more ambulances and promote local tourism.
Speaking at the reception ceremony, the city's Mayor, Mr. Ueshima Kazuhiko, expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr. Nakajima and pledged to use the donation according to his wishes.
Mr. Nakajima started out as a chef working at a beef restaurant in Minoo City in the 1960s and six years later opened his own famous restaurant, Ginnabe.
Mr. Nakajima has now retired and transferred all of his business to his children and grandchildren, but still participates in part in managing the restaurant.
It is known that Mr. Nakajima started buying gold as a form of savings for his future life since he was 40 years old and unexpectedly after nearly 50 years, this asset has increased in value 10 times. He started thinking about donating the gold he had accumulated over many years to the city government where he lived about 20 years ago as a token of gratitude.
