On the afternoon of January 3, Lieutenant Colonel Doan Van Quoi, Deputy Head of the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department (PC08), Ho Chi Minh City Police, said that in 2023, the city had 1,729 traffic accidents, of which 314 were related to alcohol concentration. The total number of deaths due to traffic accidents was 661, of which 111 were related to alcohol concentration.
Lieutenant Colonel Doan Van Quoi added that, implementing the direction of the Ministry of Public Security, PC08 Department advised the Board of Directors of Ho Chi Minh City Police and coordinated with the Police of districts, towns, and Thu Duc City to drastically implement the plan to inspect and handle violations of alcohol concentration.
“We arrange reasonable times and locations on routes where traffic accidents frequently occur, routes with restaurants and eateries serving alcohol to check and handle violations of alcohol concentration; so that people are more aware that if they have drunk alcohol, they should not drive, in order to prevent traffic accidents,” emphasized Lieutenant Colonel Doan Van Quoi.
The representative of PC08 also added that, in addition to drastically implementing plans and peak periods for checking and handling violations of alcohol concentration, it is also necessary to handle oversized, overloaded, and oversized vehicles; suspected "vehicle modifications"; and to grasp the situation and handle the situation of teenagers gathering and driving to cause disorder in order to prevent crime and reduce road traffic accidents in all three criteria compared to 2022.
Thereby, Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police handled 128,149 cases of alcohol concentration violations, 2,477 cases of overloading and extending the vehicle's body; and 3,637 cases of violations of waterway traffic.
