Chon Chinh Import Export Company Limited won the highest prize in the first round of TRVC Project.

On the morning of March 18, in Can Tho City, the Netherlands Development Organization SNV held the Summer-Autumn Crop 2024 Award Ceremony (Crop 1) to honor enterprises implementing the project "Transforming the rice value chain to respond to climate change and sustainable development in the Mekong Delta" (TRVC) in 3 provinces: Kien Giang, Dong Thap, An Giang.


Mr. Le Van Thiet - Deputy Director of Plant Protection Department called on qualified enterprises and cooperatives to participate in the TRVC Project.

The TRVC project is funded by the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD) and the Departments of Agriculture and Environment of 3 provinces: An Giang, Dong Thap and Kien Giang, implemented from 2023 to 2027. Using a results-based award mechanism, the TRVC project encourages and attracts the participation of enterprises that are producing and trading in the rice value chain.

The 2024 summer-autumn crop is the first rice crop to implement the project in An Giang, Dong Thap and Kien Giang provinces, with the participation of 8 enterprises, covering an area of ​​6,165 hectares. As a result, Chon Chinh Import-Export Company Limited was the unit that won the highest award, with 1,514.99 hectares of registered area, achieving an average greenhouse gas emission reduction of 6.57 tons of CO2e per hectare and an average profit of 68.41% for farmers.

The implementation of sustainable rice production processes has brought about positive economic, environmental and social effects. Specifically, in terms of economic efficiency, the average profit for farmers in Dong Thap was 64%; An Giang was 56%; and Kien Giang was 54%. In terms of environmental efficiency, the total emission reduction was 27,161.98 tons of CO2 equivalent. In terms of social efficiency, 100% of participating enterprises practiced integrating policies and implementing measures to ensure social equity within the enterprises themselves and in the chains in the three project provinces.

Ms. Christie Getman - SNV Country Director, affirmed: “As an international development organization, SNV is committed to supporting Vietnam in developing sustainable rice, reducing emissions, especially the goal of “Sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030”.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Madeleine Plocki - Second Secretary, Australian Embassy in Vietnam highly appreciated the initial success of the TRVC Project in the summer-autumn crop of 2024 and acknowledged the efforts of the subjects in the sustainable development of the rice industry. In particular, these awards recognized the commitment and efforts of enterprises in developing sustainable rice and hoped that enterprises would make more efforts in implementing the project in the coming time.

At the award ceremony, Mr. Le Van Thiet - Deputy Director of the Plant Protection Department emphasized the importance of the TRVC Project in the context of agriculture facing many challenges. The above results of the TRVC Project are important and contribute to the efforts to transform the low-emission rice production system and the implementation of the objectives of the Project "Sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. In particular, the efforts of enterprises participating in the TRVC Project directly contribute to mitigating global climate change and are consistent with the world's important goal of keeping the global temperature increase not exceeding 1.5°C; reducing methane emissions by 30% by 2030 according to the commitment of the Vietnamese Government at COP 26.

In the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop (Crop 2), the area registered to implement the TRVC Project in 3 provinces increased 5 times compared to Crop 1, reaching about 33,576.34 hectares, as of the reporting time (March 15, 2025). This is a positive signal, reflecting the potential for model expansion and the effectiveness of the Project.
