'The Prince of Bac Lieu' loses steam in revenue

The Vietnamese box office has clearly cooled down as “Cong Tu Bac Lieu” ran out of steam in its second week of release. Meanwhile, the new lineup of films has failed to attract much attention from audiences.

Launched from December 6, Prince of Bac Lieu had a smooth start without strong opponents in the way. Lynx or many international movies like Moana 2, Laughter Across Borders have all cooled down, creating conditions for Ly Minh Thang's brainchild to dominate the theater, with an overwhelming number of shows. At the end of the opening week, Prince of Bac Lieu more 17 billion dong

In the second week of release, the film encountered difficulties when 6 new international films appeared to compete. Having to share a lot of box office market share, the speed of making money of Prince of Bac Lieu also decreased sharply.

"Bac Lieu Prince" faces difficulties in conquering the 50 billion milestone

According to statistics from the independent unit Box Office Vietnam, Prince of Bac Lieu is still the leading name in the domestic box office revenue chart last week.

During the 3-day weekend, the movie has Song Luan and Kaity Nguyen in its pocket. 6.3 billion VND (down more than 60% compared to the opening week). The film sold about 70 thousand tickets out of a total of 4,400 screenings. On average, each screening sold about 15 tickets.

On Sunday only, Prince of Bac Lieu collect 2.3 billion VND (over 25 thousand tickets sold). As of the end of December 15, the total revenue of the film directed by Ly Minh Thang was recorded as 31 billion dong

Box office performance of Prince of Bac Lieu more or less disappointing. Before its release, the work received attention when it exploited the story of a once-famous character. Plus the favorable launch time, Prince of Bac Lieu is expected by observers to heat up Vietnamese theaters in early December.

Song Luan shows his efforts when playing the role of Cong Tu Bac Lieu.

However, in reality, the film has not been able to stir up the box office as expected. With the current speed of making money, the possibility of the work reaching the hundred billion mark is unlikely. Even reaching the 50 billion revenue mark is facing many difficulties, when this week, a series of new films continue to hit theaters.

Back at the box office last week, the runner-up position belongs to Moana 2 , with a revenue of nearly 5 billion VND . During the 3-day weekend, the Disney animated film sold 45 thousand tickets, in about 2,400 screenings. To date, the film's total revenue after 3 weeks of showing in theaters is about 27 billion dong

This achievement is actually not commensurate with a project invested by the Mouse House. Moana 2. Partly because in Vietnam, Moana is not yet a brand name, and has to compete for screenings with two other Vietnamese films. However, in the international market, the animation project with a budget of 150 million USD This is "making waves" at theater systems, pocketing nearly 617 million USD globally

"Sister-in-law", "Lion King" save the box office?

The next positions on the total revenue chart last week belong to: Kraven, the Demon and Lynx. In there, Kraven together Mr. Devil are 2 new international films released.

Kraven earn more 4.1 billion VND opening weekend. The work in Sony's superhero universe caused controversy after its release, especially the script and special effects. But in reality, Kraven It's still an entertaining film with lots of eye-catching action scenes, and a quality cast with faces like Russell Crowe and Aaron Taylor-Johnson...

While, Mr. Devil is a horror film from the Korean market. The film's content is not new, with many forced details. In return, the production design and the cast's well-rounded performances create sympathy. At the end of the opening week in the Vietnamese market, Mr. Devil pocket 2.8 billion dong

Linh Luc regrets that it cannot join the "Vietnamese movie club worth 100 billion" as expected.

Lynx In its fourth week in theaters, the movie has cooled down significantly. The movie directed by Luu Thanh Luan has pocketed more 2.3 billion VND , bringing total revenue to 85 billion.

Besides the above names, the remaining films all had lackluster performances, earning less than 1 billion dong

This week, Vietnamese cinemas welcome the appearance of a new film lineup, with two prominent names including Mufasa: The Lion King and Sister-in-law.

After Moana 2 , potential Mufasa: The Lion King The film's explosive growth in the Vietnamese market is no longer too high. However, thanks to the brand's appeal and its release on Christmas, its box office performance remains a mystery.

While Vietnamese movies Sister in law attracted attention when it gathered a cast with familiar faces such as Hong Dao, Viet Huong or Ngoc Trinh... The result of the duel between Sister in law and Mufasa: The Lion King It is still difficult to predict. However, the appearance of the duo is the "savior" for the current cold situation of the Vietnamese box office.
