Vietnamese community in Hungary unites and turns towards homeland

During 16 years of establishment and development, the Vietnamese Association in Hungary has effectively coordinated activities for member associations, representing the Vietnamese community.

According to VNA correspondents in Central and Eastern Europe, the Vietnamese Association in Hungary held its third congress (term 2024-2029) on November 17. This is the largest congress of Vietnamese associations.

The Vietnamese community in Hungary is considered a united, honest community, deeply integrated into the host society, making encouraging contributions to the host country and to the traditional and good friendship between the two countries and peoples, while always looking towards the homeland.

The congress welcomed Hungarian guests, such as former Minister of Defense Simicsko Istvan, leader of the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP) of the Hungarian ruling coalition, co-chairman of the Hungarian-Vietnamese Friendship Committee and the Hungarian-Southeast Asian Friendship Committee of the Hungarian Parliament; retired Senior Lieutenant General Botz Laszlo, Chairman of the Hungary-Vietnam Friendship Association.

Attending the event on the Vietnamese side were Ambassador Nguyen Thi Bich Thao and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary; Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong, Deputy Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; leaders of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe; leaders of Vietnamese Associations in neighboring countries and a number of other invited guests, including nearly 160 representatives of the Vietnamese community in Hungary.

The 3rd Congress of the Vietnamese Association in Hungary opened with welcoming performances imbued with national cultural identity by the Sen Viet Art Club, the Vietnamese Student Association in Hungary, the EMVE Charity Association and the Thang Long Art Troupe.

The Vietnamese Ao Dai and traditional costumes in the two dance performances "Dem hoa dang" and "Thu phap," the melody "Xa khoi" and the dance "Mot vong Viet Nam" were warmly received by delegates and guests.

Speaking at the congress and assessing the efforts over the past 7 years since the 2nd Congress of the Association, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Bich Thao reiterated the assessment of Hungarian leaders, affirming that the Vietnamese community in Hungary is a united, honest community, deeply integrated into the host society, making encouraging contributions to the host country and to the traditional and good friendship between the two countries and peoples.

On behalf of Hungary, Mr. Simicsko Istvan expressed his joy and honor at being invited to attend an important event of the Vietnamese community, a country with an impressive economic growth rate in the world.

He also shared that thanks to the Hungarian Government's "Look East" diplomatic policy, the two countries have quite similar development directions and a close relationship in which the Vietnamese community plays a significant role.

In the summary report of activities for the 2017-2024 term, Chairman of the Association Vu Quy Duong said that the goal of the Association of Vietnamese in Hungary is to help the community integrate deeply into Hungarian society, while contributing to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two peoples of Vietnam and Hungary; preserving the language and national identity, promoting the fine cultural traditions of Vietnam in Hungary; encouraging people to participate in contributing to the construction of the host country as well as always looking towards their homeland, contributing to the construction of the Vietnamese Fatherland with their intelligence, strength, money...

Looking back at the 2017-2024 term, despite going through a very difficult period due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine conflict, the Association has completed its assigned tasks, implementing many in-depth and professional activities for the community. Notable are the cultural, artistic, physical education and sports exchange programs... to preserve, conserve and spread the good values ​​of the nation; donation campaigns to help people in difficult circumstances, support compatriots affected by natural disasters and epidemics in their homeland.

The association also extends its hand to help Hungarians in need, including its annual Christmas gift-giving program to retirement homes, schools for disabled children and orphanages.

The Association has made many efforts to enhance its position and reputation in the community, such as successfully setting up a dossier to deduct 1% of personal income tax from Vietnamese workers in Hungary, creating a source of revenue for the Association Fund.

Currently, the Association is also submitting documents to request the Hungarian Government to recognize the Vietnamese community as an ethnic minority in Hungary. Many Association members have participated and been elected to key positions in domestic and international organizations.

At the congress, the Association of Vietnamese in Hungary also outlined the direction of activities in the new term, approved the revised charter and elected the Executive Committee for the 2024-2029 term with 42 members, including many young faces of the second generation of the Vietnamese community in Hungary.

Established in April 2008, the Vietnamese Association in Hungary is a legal entity recognized by the Hungarian Court. In 16 years of establishment and development, the Association has effectively coordinated activities for its member associations, representing the Vietnamese community in Hungary./.
