Announcing awards to promote ecological school and green school models

On the afternoon of October 14, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment launched the ASEAN Vietnam Eco-School Award 2024.

This is one of the activities of the ASEAN senior environmental officials. The award is assigned to each country and will be honored at the sideline event of the 2025 ASEAN environment ministers meeting, held in Malaysia.

The organization of the ASEAN Vietnam Eco-School Award 2024 aims to ensure national commitment to ASEAN as well as create momentum to promote the implementation of ecological school and green school models in Vietnam.

Speaking at the award launching ceremony, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh said that schools are not only places to impart knowledge but also places to form the personality, awareness and responsibility of the young generation towards society and the environment.

In which students play a particularly important role in environmental protection.

"For that reason, I call on all schools nationwide to participate in this award with the highest sense of responsibility. Hopefully, through the award, we will discover and share experiences of many ecological school models, green - clean - beautiful schools. Contribute to spreading sustainable lifestyle - learning - living, reducing emissions and protecting the environment to all students," said Mr. Thanh.

ASEAN Vietnam Eco-School 2024 with a total of 60 awards, worth up to nearly 1 billion VND.

The Eco-School Award is given every four years.

The National School Awards are held every four years and are presented to outstanding primary and secondary schools in ASEAN member countries.

The aim is to recognise best practices in green school programmes and encourage other schools across the country to take up green initiatives.

The first event to honor schools in ASEAN countries was held in Malaysia in July 2012, and the second in Myanmar in July 2015.

The third time in Cambodia in 2019 and the fourth time in Laos in August 2023 on the occasion of the 17th ASEAN Environment Ministers' Meeting. Of which, Vietnam nominated 8 primary and secondary schools for honor.

Green school, good learning

TTCT - The rows of green trees under the school roof are not only good for teaching and learning of teachers and students, but also for the surrounding community.
