On April 19, Mr. Le Thanh Dong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan Thanh District, Long An - said that he had disciplined teacher NTN, a teacher at Tan Binh Primary and Secondary School at Cay Sao, Tan Binh Commune, for beating a student.
At the same time, the teacher who beat the student was also transferred to another school.
According to a report from the Department of Education and Training of Tan Thanh district, on April 2, H., a first-grade student, refused to raise his hand to do calculations, addition, and subtraction in math class. Teacher N. used a ruler to hit H. five times above the forearm.
After beating her, Ms. N. realized she was wrong so she called N.'s mother via Zalo to apologize, but N.'s mother did not answer the phone.
In the afternoon, H.'s sister came to pick H. up. Ms. N. apologized to H.'s sister and she agreed and did not blame the teacher.
However, later, H.'s mother and two other people came to the school with a very aggressive attitude. H.'s mother slapped Ms. N. once. The two people who went with her also intended to hit the teacher but were stopped by the principal and other teachers.
After the incident, the school board and local authorities visited the family many times to comfort and soothe them, and on April 4, H. returned to school as usual.
On April 6, the school held a disciplinary meeting and agreed to discipline Ms. N. with a reprimand. On April 10, the district decided to transfer Ms. N. to another school.
On April 17, the school, representatives of the education sector and local authorities invited H.'s family to announce the results of the investigation.
H.'s parents agreed to deal with Ms. N. and promised not to post the incident on social media. But they requested Ms. N. to come directly to the family to talk.
"We have directed the Department of Education and Training to coordinate with the school and local authorities to bring the teacher to apologize to H's family," said Mr. Dong.
