To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation Day of the Capital, the Hanoi People's Committee has just held a ceremony to honor "Outstanding Citizens of the Capital", commending typical advanced models, good people, and good deeds in 2024.
As one of the faces honored as "Good people, good deeds" at the city level this year, teacher Nguyen Thi Thanh Van from Giap Bat Secondary School could not hide her joy, pride and emotion.
This is the motivation that helps her continue to contribute more in her career of educating people. In addition to her duties and responsibilities as a teacher, she always worries and devotes much effort to encouraging and helping students in difficult circumstances at the school.
During the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years, Ms. Van supported the cost of studying, participating in activities and daily living for Ly Thanh Tai in her class (father is seriously ill, mother does not have a stable job), the total for each school year is 5,847,000 VND.
Tien Minh's situation is also very difficult when his father left home, his mother is severely depressed, he has to live with his grandparents. From 2021 to 2024, Minh also received 7 million VND in tuition support from Ms. Thanh Van. Ms. Van also helped Quynh Anh and Dinh Thien, class 9H, in the 2022-2023 school year with 9 million VND.
From the 2022-2023 school year, Ms. Van will support Tien Minh and Thanh Tai with 3 million VND each for their study expenses, activities and daily living expenses. The total amount of money that Ms. Thanh Van has donated to help students in special circumstances is 30.7 million VND.
In addition, Ms. Van is also a bridge for volunteer work such as: Receiving old textbooks from students and then giving them to disadvantaged students in lower grades, receiving uniforms from 9th grade students who have graduated, bringing them home to be washed and given to disadvantaged students in the class.
She spends extra time reviewing after school to tutor some students who are struggling to improve day by day. Especially for grade 9, Ms. Van also focuses a lot of time reviewing for students after regular school hours for free.
In terms of expertise, Ms. Thanh Van always cares about and nurtures the key quality and achieves good results when Nguyen Huong Giang, class 9A, won first prize, and Dang Bao Linh, class 3 won third prize in the District-level Civic Education competition for the 2022-2023 school year. In 2023-2024, Luu Truc Chi, class 9A4, and Nguyen Phuong Thuy, class 8A4, won the District-level Encouragement Prize in Civic Education.
In 2023, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Van won the Second Prize in the School-level Excellent Teacher Competition for Literature. In 2024, she won the First Prize in the School-level Excellent Teacher Competition for Civic Education, and the Encouragement Prize in the District-level Excellent Teacher Competition for Civic Education. The 2023-2024 school year's experience initiative achieved grade C at the District level.
