DNVN - Transitioning to a green economy is a practical requirement and is increasingly becoming an inevitable trend of global economies. In that context, opportunities for Vietnam will outweigh challenges if we can outline appropriate and specific steps and roadmaps and enlist the support and assistance of external partners...

At the national scientific conference “Green economic development – Theory and practice” held in Nam Dinh on June 26, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Trong Lam - Director, Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House Truth, said that, in the face of the impact of climate change and the environment, green economic transformation is an inevitable trend for development. The gradual greening of production and the application of digital transformation in the economy have been creating competitive advantages and opportunities to build the most sustainable and effective economic development strategy.

Recognizing the importance of green economic development towards the goal of sustainable national development, ensuring macroeconomic stability, renewing the growth model, improving productivity, quality, competitiveness and resilience to external shocks of the economy. Our Party and State have had policies and orientations to promote green growth, develop digital economy and circular economy.

Mr. Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association said that implementing the Party's policy on building and developing a green economy, from 2021 to present, sectors, levels, localities and enterprises have strongly implemented the green economic transformation process and achieved initial results, having a positive effect on economic restructuring, promoting growth model transformation, towards the goal of sustainable and inclusive development.

Mr. Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association.

Ministries, sectors and localities have issued and made efforts to implement national action plans on green growth. Enterprises and people have promoted greening production, greening lifestyles and promoting sustainable consumption.

From a local perspective, Mr. Pham Gia Tuc - Secretary of Nam Dinh Provincial Party Committee, emphasized that the province always focuses on environmental protection, minimizing the risk of environmental pollution from craft villages, and strictly controlling sources of emissions in industrial parks and clusters. Nam Dinh aims to build a modern, green, and sustainable growth model, achieving goals in responding to climate change and especially implementing the commitments of the Vietnamese Government at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change COP 26.

However, according to Mr. Le Quoc Minh, the current reality of green economic development still faces many barriers. Currently, specific mechanisms, policies and legal documents towards implementing green economy in Vietnam have not been completed, only stopping at proposing approaches, mainly focusing on green growth; awareness of protecting natural resources and the environment is not high.

In addition, financial issues and capital sources for implementing the goal of building and developing a green economy are still lacking. Production technology in Vietnam compared to the world is mostly old technology, consuming a lot of energy, and poor waste treatment leading to low production efficiency.

Clean energy production industries such as wind, solar, etc. have not developed strongly enough to meet the national energy demand. In addition, Vietnam is one of the countries most severely affected by climate change. Therefore, the roadmap to build a green economy in the context of climate change still faces many difficulties and challenges.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Trong Lam, realizing the difficulties and challenges, we identify this as an opportunity to seize and set out strategic directions for green economic development such as: improving the efficiency and effectiveness of energy and resource use; ensuring national energy security. Developing modern, clean, green, sustainable organic agriculture and forestry. Along with that is the application of green technology, limiting economic sectors that emit large emissions and cause environmental pollution. Developing infrastructure, energy-saving and environmentally friendly transportation networks. Promoting urbanization in a green, smart and sustainable direction...

At the workshop, the speakers shared the view that the transition to a green economy is a practical requirement and is increasingly becoming an inevitable trend of global economies. In that context, opportunities for Vietnam will be greater than challenges if we can outline appropriate and specific steps and roadmaps and take advantage of the support and assistance of external partners in terms of capital, human resource training, technology and management.

Mr. Le Quoc Minh said that the opinions of the delegates at the workshop were viewed from many different perspectives with a combination of practical experience and scientific theory. The frank and constructive exchanges of opinions will contribute significantly to the success of the workshop and are valuable materials contributing to the development of documents for the 14th National Party Congress.
