The most outstanding youth project in Nghe An province
On important days of the country, the Youth Union of Nam Dan district has carried out the work of repairing the memorial work of Uncle Ho, on Voi mountain in Thien Nhan mountain range, Thuong Tan Loc commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province. Mr. Dang Van Trung, Secretary of Nam Dan District Youth Union shared that this work was built in 2017, but in fact this inscription has been there since 1947, with the purpose of praising the merits of President Ho Chi Minh.
Great work of gratitude to Uncle Ho on Thien Nhan mountain range.
More than 75 years ago, a military unit marched through and stopped in the district and coordinated with local youth union members and students of Tan Loc Secondary School (now Nam Tan Secondary School and Nam Loc Secondary School) to carve the words: "Long live President Ho Chi Minh" on the mountain range.
At that time, this line had great spiritual significance for the people here. During the years of resistance, the line became a slogan of determination and solidarity, expressing the indomitable fighting spirit, "All for the front line, all to defeat the invaders".
In particular, in 1972, when the resistance war against the US was taking place fiercely, to commemorate Uncle Ho, the Party Committee of Nam Tan commune (now Thuong Tan Loc commune) proposed to change the words from "Long live President Ho Chi Minh" to "Forever grateful to great Uncle Ho" until today.
Since then, Nam Dan District Youth Union has been assigned the responsibility of caring for and preserving the words "Forever grateful to great Uncle Ho" as a reminder to the younger generation of the history and contributions of President Ho Chi Minh to the Vietnamese people.
“The previous inscription was dug and built with soil, then whitewashed. Therefore, the quality of the inscription was not durable and had to be repaired many times. Therefore, we have cherished a project to build a more solid and beautiful inscription so that tourists from all over the world and people from far away can see it,” said Mr. Trung.
In 2017, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Uncle Ho's first visit to his hometown (1957 - 2017), with the consent of the Nam Dan District Party Committee, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of this district undertook the construction of the inscription "Forever grateful to the great Uncle Ho" at Voi hill in Thien Nhan mountain range, Thuong Tan Loc commune. The project was implemented from social mobilization sources, starting on March 16, 2017.
After nearly 9 months of construction on the high mountain, the construction of the inscription “Forever grateful to great Uncle Ho” has been completed. “The project shows the respect of the youth, people of Nghe An province and children from all over the country for President Ho Chi Minh; has profound humanistic meaning, reminding cadres and youth union members to always preserve their qualities and revolutionary ethics, study and follow Uncle Ho's teachings, and worthily continue the great cause left by Uncle Ho”, said the Secretary of Nam Dan District Youth Union.
In 2017, the project was inaugurated after nearly 9 months of construction.
This is also a youth project of Nghe An youth to welcome the 11th National Congress of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, term 2017-2022. When the project was completed, the Standing Committee of Nam Dan District Youth Union was awarded a certificate of merit by the Prime Minister. The project was also honored as one of the ten most outstanding youth volunteer projects in Nghe An province in 2018.
Proud work of the youth of Uncle Ho's hometown
To build this project, Nam Dan District Youth Union mobilized thousands of working days from union members, youth, military and police forces stationed in the area.
“The construction period fell at the beginning of the hot season and in the middle, there were storms and rains, damaging the road... so many construction teams had to continuously take turns. The most difficult thing was transporting materials such as cement, sand, gravel, steel and especially water. At that time, the construction organization had to use 5 chain water pumping stations to bring water up the mountain,” said the Secretary of the Nam Dan District Youth Union.
Every year, the Nam Dan district youth union organizes to repair and clean up the area around the inscription.
According to statistics, the project has contributed more than 1,000 working days from youth union members, teachers, leaders of school teams and 350 working days from youth union members of the Armed Forces units in the province.
The project was rebuilt with concrete, reinforced steel and implemented from socialized funds, the total cost of implementation is 1.235 billion VND. The line of words remembering Uncle Ho's merits is covered with white paint with reflective powder, about 200m long, each letter is 9m high and each stroke is 2m wide. The concrete wall of the letters is 0.2m thick; the foundation is 0.4m deep; the height from the foundation is 0.3 - 1.5m, depending on the actual condition of the mountainside. In addition, there are many other auxiliary items such as: 15m high national flagpole, monument stele, green tree system.
“The project has created a highlight to remind union members, youth and people to study and follow Uncle Ho’s teachings. The project is also a source of pride and honor for the youth in Uncle Ho’s homeland,” Trung shared with a proud voice.
Mr. Nguyen Canh Loc, Chairman of Thuong Tan Loc Commune, added that the idea of construction was from 2009 - 2010 but at that time it could not be implemented due to lack of funding and complicated construction conditions due to being on the mountain. It was not until 2017, when Nam Dan District Youth Union proposed the project, that many people supported it. The process of mobilizing social resources to build the project was also quite favorable.
“At the foot of Voi Mountain, the commune’s households have also planted lotus and created a souvenir photo spot for tourists when they come to Nam Dan. The newly planted lotus pond area is about 5 hectares, not only creating a beautiful landscape when looking up at the inscription but also bringing income to the households,” said Mr. Loc.
