Join hands to ease the pain of Agent Orange victims

The Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin and the National Humanitarian Information Portal (Portal 1400) have just launched the charity texting program "Join hands to ease the pain of Agent Orange" in 2023.

The program was implemented from July 20 to September 19 to mobilize people and soldiers nationwide to join hands and contribute to support and cover medical examination and treatment costs, vocational training, house construction and repair, and gifts for poor and disadvantaged Agent Orange victims nationwide.

At the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, said that organizing charity text messages is a practical and effective way, suitable for the psychological characteristics and financial capabilities of many classes and social groups in our country.

The money raised from the texting program not only reflects the sentiment and responsibility of the community towards Agent Orange victims, but also helps millions of Vietnamese people and international friends better understand the Agent Orange disaster in Vietnam and the work to overcome the consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US during the war in Vietnam.

In 2023, the text message program "Join hands to ease the pain of Agent Orange" strives to mobilize 3 billion VND to support medical examination and treatment; vocational training; house construction and repair; and gifts for Agent Orange victims.

On this occasion, the Association of Agent Orange Victims of Thai Binh province donated 100 million VND; the Association of Hoa Binh province donated 40 million VND; the Association of Ninh Binh province donated 30 million VND; the Association of Ha Nam province donated 20 million VND; the Association of Bac Giang, Hai Duong and the Fund for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin of Hai Phong city each donated 10 million VND to the Vietnam Fund for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.

The Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin also met with the press to inform about key activities in 2023.

Accordingly, on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the Agent Orange disaster in Vietnam (August 10, 1961 - August 10, 2023) and towards the 5th National Congress of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, term 2023-2028, the Central Association will launch the "Action Month for Victims of Agent Orange" on August 1, 2023 in Hanoi.

During the program, the Organizing Committee will receive support from organizations, individuals, soldiers, and Vietnamese people at home and abroad to respond to the "Action Month for Agent Orange Victims", to encourage the spirit and material for victims who have suffered the consequences of chemical warfare.

The texting program "Join hands to ease the pain of Agent Orange" is an annual activity jointly implemented by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin and the National Humanitarian Information Portal (1400) since 2011.

In 2022, the program received more than 155,000 messages, equivalent to more than 3 billion VND. The entire amount was used by the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin to support the renovation of 7 houses and repair of 9 houses for victims' families with a total amount of 470 million VND; visit and give gifts to victims' families during the Lunar New Year with a total amount of 1.43 billion VND; visit and give gifts on the Day for Agent Orange Victims (August 10) and support production capital for victims, support for raising victims at Social Protection Centers... with an amount of 1.203 billion VND.
