Born and raised in the countryside of Duc Hue district, Long An province, Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Tien (Hamlet 3, My Thanh Dong commune) cherished the dream of contributing to improving the quality of rice varieties as well as bringing the world's best rice to her homeland. To realize this dream, in 2022, she and members of the Dung Sach Agricultural Service Cooperative (My Thanh Dong commune) trialed organic production of ST24 rice varieties and then switched to organic production of ST25 rice varieties. Up to now, Ms. Tien's brand of ST25 Dung Sach rice has gradually become known to many people.
Ms. Tien realized that the rice production area in the locality is relatively large with a total sown area of about 43,000 hectares/year, however, people mainly grow regular and sticky rice varieties. The production of fragrant rice and good quality rice is still limited. Therefore, Ms. Tien wants to open a new direction from the advantages of her hometown. That is to produce rice but with a new rice variety, with superior quality. After research, Ms. Tien decided to choose ST25 rice - a rice variety that produces the best rice in the world.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Tien (Hamlet 3, My Thanh Dong Commune, Duc Hue District, Long An) wants to help the locality improve the quality of rice varieties.
Ms. Tien shared: “I want to contribute to improving the quality of local rice varieties, doing something meaningful for the community. First of all, it is to help people in my hometown easily access and enjoy delicious rice, ensuring safety for health. Therefore, I and the members of the True Clean Agricultural Service Cooperative produce ST25 rice in an organic way, then mill it into rice, without polishing the rice grains to keep as much bran as possible, keeping the nutrients of the rice grains”. On the journey to start a business, Ms. Tien encountered many difficulties because the new rice varieties and organic production did not have a standard process. The initial rice yields did not meet expectations, and bringing the first, satisfactory products to the market was extremely difficult. However, Ms. Tien never gave up because she determined that this was a long journey to success. Thanks to the efforts of her and the collective of the True Clean Agricultural Service Cooperative, the production of new rice varieties in the locality gradually stabilized. Currently, the production scale with a total area of sown rice ST25 is 5 hectares and is expected to expand to 10 hectares. "Because I want to ensure the quality, the "cleanliness" of the rice grains and the products that reach consumers must be truly safe, I choose to go slowly, not expanding the area massively to have the best control, maintain the quality of each grain of rice, create prestige for the products that we are passionate about making" - Ms. Tien confided. Having a quality product, Ms. Tien focuses on building a brand and expanding the market. First, she promotes the product to friends and relatives, especially through social networks such as Facebook, Zalo, ... At the same time, she connects with the locality to inform about the product as well as use the product as a gift so that many people know about it. Because she puts health first, the product gradually creates an impression and prestige with consumers. Ms. Tien said: “Currently, the number of local customers accessing my ST25 rice product has reached a fairly high level compared to the set target. In addition, I also have a number of customers in neighboring provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, ...”. In addition, Ms. Tien also cooperated with Song Nguyen Company Limited (Ho Chi Minh City) to process rice bran into food for people. Accordingly, the product can be used instead of milk and is processed 100% from rice bran, good and safe for health. With a firm belief and the initial goal, Ms. Tien still maintains the flame of enthusiasm to continue to go further with her product. In the coming time, she will build a product that meets OCOP standards and continue to promote it so that more people know about it.
