If Tho Ha pottery is made from green clay “bones”, Bat Trang pottery is made from white clay, Phu Lang pottery is made from red clay “bones” from Thong Vat, Cung Khiem (Bac Giang). transported by river, then brought to the docks in Phu Lang village. After 4-5 stages of screening gravel and rocks, the soil will be smooth and flexible enough for craftsmen and artisans to shape and create ceramic products according to their ideas.

Ms. Dang Thi Tam, owner of Minh Tam pottery production facility, said that the most special feature of Phu Lang pottery is the glaze made from forest ash and river mud. Phu Lang pottery products are coated with this glaze and fired at 1,200 degrees Celsius to create eel skin or cockroach wing glaze colors, depending on each family's recipe.

Artisan Nguyen Minh Ngoc - a young generation of Phu Lang village said that he still continues the tradition of his ancestors and all the young craftsmen in the village have the ambition to promote ceramic products suitable for craft village tourism. According to Mr. Ngoc, Phu Lang ceramic products are becoming more modern and beautiful, not only for civil use but also for decoration. However, households in Phu Lang are still producing large-sized products, which consume a lot of land and firewood to fire the ceramics.

Realizing this inadequacy, artisans from Toho pottery village, Fukuoka prefecture, Japan directly instructed on Japanese pottery techniques combined with traditional techniques of Phu Lang craft village. After combining with Japanese pottery style, young artisans and workers in Phu Lang have made small-sized pottery products, aiming to serve domestic and international tourists with higher selling value.

Phu Lang Pottery Village is one of three locations that the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province has oriented to develop into an OCOP tourism product associated with the National Target Program on New Rural Development.
