On the morning of December 5, Chief Justice of Hanoi People's Court Nguyen Huu Chinh reported to the City People's Council on trial work in 2023 and tasks in 2024.
According to Mr. Chinh, one of the focuses of the People's Court's work in 2024 is to promptly and strictly try serious and complicated corruption and economic cases that are of public interest.
“The cases are monitored and directed by the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption and Anti-Corruption, applying strict punishment to the masterminds, leaders, and those who take advantage of their positions and powers to appropriate or cause loss of large amounts of assets; focusing on the work of recovering assets for the state,” Mr. Chinh emphasized.
Mr. Chinh pointed out 3 major cases monitored and directed by the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption and Negativity, which are expected to be brought to trial in 2024. Specifically, the case related to Viet A Technology Joint Stock Company, which has so far been handled with 38 defendants; the case related to Tan Hoang Minh Hotel Service Trading Company Limited, which has so far been handled with 15 defendants; and the case related to FLC Group Joint Stock Company.
Regarding the trial work in 2023, Mr. Chinh said that the Hanoi People's Court has promptly and strictly tried a number of major cases monitored and directed by the Central Steering Committee and the City Party Committee's Steering Committee on anti-corruption and anti-negativity.
In which, the "rescue flight" case with 54 defendants was tried for the crimes of "Giving bribes", "Receiving bribes", "Brokering bribes", "Fraudulent appropriation of property" and "Abusing position and power while performing official duties".
“This is a very big and complicated case, but the City People’s Court brought it to trial in just one month. The trial took place in the spirit of open debate and was highly appreciated by public opinion,” said Mr. Chinh.
Also in 2023, the Hanoi People's Court will try the case that occurred at Dong Nai General Hospital, International Progress Joint Stock Company (AIC Company) and a number of related units. In this case, the defendant Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, who is on the run, was still brought to trial for the crimes of "Giving bribes" and "Violating bidding regulations causing serious consequences", demonstrating the determination of the Party and State in preventing and combating corruption.
In addition, the Hanoi People's Court also tried the case of Nguyen Ngoc Hai, former Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province and a number of former provincial leaders who were tried for the crime of "Violating regulations on management and use of state assets causing loss and waste"...
