"I'm still here, give me the address!", Ramil Sheydayev wrote, in a message posted on his Instagram account on November 30, tagging the Zhejiang Club account. Ramil Sheydayev, 27, was born in Russia, but he chose to play for the Azerbaijan national team. This player just joined Buriram United Club before the 2023-2024 season for a fee of 1.2 million euros, playing a total of 11 matches so far, scoring 1 goal and having 3 assists.

Ramil Sheydayev posts challenging message to Zhejiang FC players

In the match where Buriram United lost to Zhejiang Club (2-3) in the penultimate round of the AFC Champions League group stage on November 29, after the match, Ramil Sheydayev was chased and beaten by Chinese players in a horrific brawl.

The incident happened at the Huzhou Olympic Sports Center stadium in Huzhou, China, of Zhejiang FC. According to clips posted on social networks X (old Twitter) and Weibo (similar to social network X, but only used in China), the incident started when some Buriram United players had a verbal exchange with Zhejiang FC reserve players entering the field right after the match ended.

Immediately, Zhejiang FC players both on and off the field rushed in, pushing, arguing and creating a chaotic brawl right on the field. Next, Zhejiang FC players rushed in to violently beat Ramil Sheydayev, causing him to fall to the ground but was still beaten and kicked.

The brawl lasted for more than 3 minutes in the chaos. Thai national team defender, Theerathon Bunmathan of Buriram United was accused by Chinese social media users of participating in and inciting the brawl. They said that this player was still angry because the Thai national team lost 1-2 to China in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers recently, so he took the opportunity to cause the brawl.

However, Southeast Asian newspapers such as ESPN FC or VOCKET FC of Malaysia said: "Watching the incident on the clips shows that Theerathon Bunmathan or Dion Cools (Malaysian midfielder) of Buriram United participated in the fight because their teammates were beaten. But then, Theerathon Bunmathan and Dion Cools proactively cooled down the incident by pulling their teammates away from the hot spots of the fight."

The brawl between players from Buriram United and Zhejiang clubs shocked Asian football.

ESPN FC journalist Paul Murphy wrote on his social media account X (Twitter): "Regardless of the cause of the brawl, it is clear that the visiting team Buriram United did not have the necessary protection. Buriram United striker Ramil Sheydayev was violently punched and kicked by Zhejiang players. This is a very brutal image for a football match, many images and clips posted on social networks show the extent of the incident has gone too far. The AFC (Asian Football Confederation) will certainly have a very heavy penalty for Zhejiang Club, because this is their home stadium. Buriram United players may also be punished, once the AFC has completed its investigation into the incident and the cause of the worst brawl in Asian football."
