On the afternoon of November 27, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - and leaders of relevant departments and branches had a meeting and worked with Mr. Daniel Stork, Consul General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City, and members of the working delegation visiting and working in Can Tho.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien said that Vietnam in general and Can Tho city in particular have been making efforts to reduce net emissions to zero by 2050 as committed at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Can Tho city is also implementing comprehensive and drastic measures to implement target programs to promote green growth, respond to climate change and develop sustainably.

From the determination of Can Tho city, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien hopes that through the Consul General, the Netherlands will share lessons learned and support Can Tho city in implementing projects/programs related to green and sustainable development, implementing zero net emissions through forums and multilateral cooperation mechanisms so that the two sides have the opportunity to continue expanding cooperation to achieve the goal of reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, based on similarities in low terrain characteristics compared to sea level, the Netherlands as well as the Mekong Delta are both facing high risks of flooding and subsidence. Therefore, through extensive cooperation in programs and projects in the fields of environment and climate change between Can Tho and the Netherlands, opportunities will be opened up to implement projects to prevent and adapt to rising sea levels and flooding in the coming time.

Regarding the field of education and training, Can Tho city leaders also expressed their wish that Dutch educational and training institutions strengthen their links with Can Tho city educational institutions to open undergraduate and postgraduate training programs, short-term and long-term training courses for civil servants and teachers of high schools, colleges and universities in the city...
