According to AFP news agency, China expressed hope that the French Foreign Minister's visit will help the two countries strengthen cooperation in the context of the world undergoing "turbulence and transformation". According to Beijing, the two sides will discuss how to "jointly combat unilateralism and the rise of the law of the jungle".
For his part, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said that the two sides had "frank, constructive and in-depth discussions", in which he stressed that Paris opposed "any form of trade war" and supported dialogue on related issues, especially between the EU and China.
Regarding the issue of cognac imports, Mr. Barrot stated: "Our common goal is to reach a quick solution, so that we can focus our resources and efforts on building partnerships and investing for the future."
On the Ukraine conflict, the French foreign minister called on Beijing to help bring Russia to the negotiating table, stating: "China and France must work together to promote a just and lasting peace."
"China also has a role to play in convincing Russia to come to the negotiating table with serious proposals and good faith," the French diplomat added.
Mr. Wang Yi responded that China will "continue to strengthen strategic coordination on international and regional hot issues".
