Building a self-defense militia that is increasingly "strong and widespread"

"Working army" at the grassroots

90 years ago, on March 28, 1935, the First Party Congress was held in Macau (China), our Party issued a resolution on the Self-Defense Force. This was an important historical milestone, becoming the Traditional Day of the Vietnam People's Army.

From here, under the leadership of the Party, the militia and self-defense force was organized, built, developed, and grew stronger throughout the country, making an important contribution to the struggle for national liberation, as well as to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

The Militia and Self-Defense Forces are under the leadership of the Party, the management and administration of the government, the direct command of military agencies at all levels, and are one of the main tools to protect the Party, protect the government, protect the lives and property of the people and the State at the grassroots level.

In the current process of building and defending the Fatherland, the Militia and Self-Defense Forces are becoming more and more important and necessary. In addition to building and protecting security and national defense, they are also a force that sticks closely to the grassroots, takes the lead in implementing the Party's guidelines and policies, and actively participates in social activities.

According to Colonel Tran Minh Trang - Standing Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Commander of the Military Command of Vinh Long province, the Militia and Self-Defense Force is always the core force on the spot, pioneering in activities to prevent, combat, overcome the consequences of natural disasters, epidemics, search and rescue.

Actively propagate and mobilize people to strictly implement the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's policies and laws.

The militia and self-defense forces also actively participate in close coordination with the regular forces, the People's Public Security and other forces to participate in building localities and units that are developed, economically rich, and politically strong, in terms of national defense and security.

In particular, during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the motto "fighting the epidemic like fighting the enemy", the Militia and Self-Defense Forces nationwide have proactively and actively participated in fighting the epidemic, protecting the health and lives of the people with all their affection, responsibility and obligation to serve the Fatherland and the people.

The image of the “Square Star Soldier” also actively contributes, promotes, and mobilizes people to participate in building new rural areas and civilized urban areas. Thereby, it leaves many deep impressions and good feelings in the hearts of the people, and is trusted and highly appreciated by Party committees and authorities at all levels.

“Strong, widespread”

Through the revolutionary periods, along with the growth and maturity of the militia and self-defense forces in the province, the militia and self-defense forces of Long Ho district developed rapidly in all aspects. The militia and self-defense forces supported the people of neighboring localities to rise up and seize power, actively coordinated and participated in the fight with the main force and local troops, bravely and steadfastly fighting with the army and people of the whole country, recording brilliant golden pages in the history of the nation's resistance against foreign invaders.

Along with participating in combat, the Militia and Self-Defense Forces also actively participate in production labor, construction of military bases, defense works, and maintenance of security and order in the locality. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Chinh - Commander of the Long Ho District Military Command said that in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, the district's militia and self-defense force was built with a reasonable structure, tight organization, comprehensive quality, good combat readiness, and effective operations.

100% of the commanders and deputy commanders of the military command of communes and towns have received basic military training. Every year, the militia and self-defense forces are organized to train, foster, coach, compete, and compete in sports events in accordance with the law.

According to comrade Tran Ngoc Ba Nhan - Provincial Party Committee member, Secretary of Long Ho District Party Committee, the militia and self-defense force has always received the attention and leadership of Party committees and authorities at all levels, and the support and active participation of all classes of people. Proactively master weapons and equipment, especially new weapons and equipment, and strengthen modern facilities and techniques to ensure all activities of the provincial armed forces.

Regarding the training of the militia, Colonel Tran Minh Trang added: Training is close to the requirements and tasks, focusing on improving the quality of training for mobile militia, air defense, and artillery; timely training to supplement the content, meeting the requirements of disease prevention and natural disaster prevention. In 2025, the training and testing organization strives to achieve 100% of the requirements, of which 75% are good and excellent.
