'Officer's violations in rescue flight affect province's image'

On the morning of December 25, Mr. Le Tri Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, chaired a press conference to inform about the socio-economic situation in 2023 and key tasks in 2024.

At the press conference, many questions were raised by reporters, including the fact that the Central Inspection Commission had just issued a press release informing about the disciplinary action taken against many officials, so how did Quang Nam province handle the disciplined officials?

Responding to this issue, Ms. Tran Thi Kim Hoa, Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Nam province, said that according to regulations, within 30 days from the date of announcement of Party discipline, the competent authority will carry out the administrative discipline process. The level of administrative discipline corresponds to Party discipline. The highest form is forced resignation and removal from office.

In the general context of the epidemic situation in the country at that time and compared to some other localities, the province controlled the epidemic very well in 2021. This is specifically demonstrated by the outstanding economic development indicators in 2022. However, there were some officials who committed wrongdoings and were handled and reprimanded by the authorities.

"We will seriously handle these officials according to regulations. The violations of the officials in the "rescue flight" incident have affected the image of Quang Nam province. However, this will not hinder the future development of the province, when we are truly frank and honest in our work of managing officials, thereby doing better in this work in the near future," Mr. Thanh commented.

Strengthen, revive and improve the working spirit of staff

Speaking more about the issue of disciplining officials, Mr. Le Tri Thanh said that recently, the Central Inspection Committee issued a press release in which it pointed out the violations of the province.

However, due to lack of time, the Central Inspection Committee has not yet come to Quang Nam to officially announce the decision. Quang Nam province is waiting for the official announcement to implement related decisions according to its authority.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province also informed that 2024 is an important year for implementing the tasks and targets set by the Quang Nam Provincial Party Congress.

According to the conclusion of the Central Inspection Committee, the province has violations in a number of agencies, units, organizations and individuals.

"Regarding this, it is necessary to soon consolidate, improve, revive, and improve the working spirit of cadres and civil servants at all levels and sectors. At the same time, promote administrative reform, overcome the bottlenecks and inherent problems that we have encountered for a long time, to reduce inconvenience for people and businesses. Regarding the discipline of officials, recently General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong chaired a meeting of the Politburo and the Secretariat to review and discipline party organizations and party members with violations and shortcomings.

Regarding individuals, the Politburo and the Secretariat believe that Mr. Tran Van Tan, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, has degraded in political ideology, ethics, lifestyle, violated Party regulations, State laws, regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do and responsibilities to set an example, causing very serious consequences, public outrage, and negatively affecting the reputation of the Party organization and local government.

The Politburo decided to issue a disciplinary warning to the Standing Committee of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee for the 2015-2020 and 2020-2025 terms; the Secretariat decided to expel Mr. Tran Van Tan from the Party.

Regarding the "rescue flight" case, at the end of July 2023, the Hanoi People's Court held a first-instance trial of 54 defendants. Mr. Tran Van Tan, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, was prosecuted for bribery, accused of receiving 5 billion VND in the process of granting quarantine permits for people returning on "rescue flights". Mr. Tan is appealing for a reduced sentence.
