By October 22, Cam Giang district had basically completed planting more than 800 hectares of various winter crops, equal to 80% of the plan. Of which, the area of key crops such as carrots, waxy corn, sweet corn, squash, pumpkin... accounted for 77%.
Of the winter crop area, nearly 480 hectares of early carrots are grown in Duc Chinh, Cam Van, Cam Vu and Cao An communes. Early carrots often sell for 50-70% higher than the main crop price. From the beginning of the season, service cooperatives and large-scale concentrated producers have strengthened production links and product consumption with businesses to avoid the situation of having a good harvest but being forced to sell at low prices.
In addition to carrots, farmers in the district maintain and expand concentrated vegetable production areas applying VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic agricultural practices; raising awareness of safe production and processing processes for stable consumption.
The district's professional force is actively propagating and advising farmers to continue planting some seasonal crops such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, kohlrabi, cabbage, cauliflower, etc. At the same time, they are strengthening field sanitation and plant protection.
This winter crop, Cam Giang district plans to plant 1,070 hectares (up 5% over the same period last year), achieving a production value of 210 million VND/ha (up about 10%) to compensate for the damage caused by the recent storm No. 3.
