The domestic waste collection point in Cam Dong commune (Cam Giang) has been renovated to meet requirements.

Quick solution

According to the review and assessment report of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Cam Giang district has achieved 5/8 environmental targets and criteria according to the set of criteria for advanced new rural districts. The environmental targets and criteria that this district has not achieved are mainly related to waste treatment and classification. Currently, the rate of sorting domestic solid waste at source in the district is only 37.1%.

Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Cam Giang, Nguyen Khac Nghia, informed that over the past 2 months, the district has focused on quickly resolving most of the unmet environmental criteria and targets as indicated in the report of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment. 2 landfills (both in Cam Van commune) have been completely closed. Basically completed the infrastructure renovation for 2 domestic waste collection points in Cao An and Cam Dong communes. Completed the issuance of the project to inventory, control, protect water quality, restore landscapes, improve the ecosystem of ponds and lakes and surface water sources in the district...

"Recently, the district has implemented a plan to classify, collect and treat domestic solid waste in the area with many drastic solutions. The goal is that by the end of this year, all communes and towns will have at least 80% of households classifying domestic solid waste at source and by 2025, it will be 100%," Mr. Nghia emphasized.

In recent times, Kim Thanh district has also actively completed environmental indicators and criteria. Up to now, through review, this district has achieved 7/8 indicators and criteria on environment and living environment quality. The only indicator that this district has not achieved is the rate of households classifying household waste at source, reaching only 61.11% (statistics up to the end of 2023).

Kim Thanh district is assigning associations and organizations to promote and replicate models of collecting, classifying, and treating waste at source, striving to achieve this target by the end of this year.

An Dong Industrial Cluster (Nam Sach) has an investor to build environmental protection infrastructure according to the criteria of an advanced new rural district.

Among the 4 districts striving to reach the advanced new rural area by 2025, Nam Sach is the district that has achieved all 8 targets and criteria on environment and living environment quality. However, according to the above report, this district has not yet issued a plan or project to inventory, control, and protect water quality; restore landscapes, improve pond ecosystems and surface water sources in the district. The industrial cluster (An Dong) does not have environmental protection infrastructure according to regulations.

Speaking to reporters, Deputy Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Nam Sach District Nguyen Thi Hue said that the environmental protection infrastructure at An Dong Industrial Park will be completed soon. Not long ago, according to the decision of the Provincial People's Committee on adjusting the decision to establish An Dong Industrial Park, the investor in building the technical infrastructure of this industrial park was identified as Dai Tin Production and Trading Joint Stock Company. The company is responsible for completing the environmental protection infrastructure within 24 months, starting from August 25.

The district's Department of Natural Resources and Environment is developing a plan to inventory, control, and protect water quality; restore landscapes, improve pond ecosystems and surface water sources in the district, and strive to advise the district to promulgate before November 15.

Need a lot of money to overcome difficulties

Among the 4 districts striving to reach the advanced new rural area goal by 2025, Gia Loc district is facing the most difficulties as it has only achieved 2/8 targets and criteria on environment and quality of living environment.

The targets and criteria that this district has not achieved mainly focus on groups of issues such as: the rate of domestic waste treated by direct burial is only over 70%. The rate of households classifying domestic solid waste at source is only over 20%. There is no centralized domestic wastewater treatment system, and craft villages do not meet environmental protection requirements...

Gia Loc district has reviewed, evaluated and proposed solutions to soon complete the above indicators and criteria. The district is expected to need over 89 billion VND to complete these indicators and criteria. This amount of money is intended to invest in the construction of 53 waste composting cells in communes and towns, a centralized wastewater treatment plant in Gia Loc town, a wastewater collection system for the vermicelli craft village in Tan Tien commune, a solid waste collection point for the leather shoe craft village in Hoang Dieu commune, etc.

Gia Loc district still has a lot of work ahead, and needs a large amount of funding. Therefore, in addition to the locality's initiative and positivity, it needs timely support and assistance from superiors.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Nghia said that Cam Giang district has not yet met the criteria for an industrial cluster with environmental protection infrastructure as prescribed. Currently, Cao An industrial cluster is almost full of projects. Mobilizing investors for environmental protection infrastructure in this industrial cluster is not easy, because each enterprise here has built its own waste treatment system.

Cao An Industrial Park currently has 3.8 hectares of uncleared land that can be used for planning to build environmental protection infrastructure. The resources to carry out this project are huge. The district has requested support from superiors and called on businesses to join in order to soon complete this project.
