Every day, you receive many calls from unknown numbers but do not know if they are scam calls, advertising calls... or important calls from partners, relatives, friends. So, before picking up the phone, please follow some of the simple steps below.
How to check if a strange phone number calling is a scam call or not. |
Install caller identification apps
Some apps will identify the caller, for example TrueCaller can help you know the name or location of the caller. In addition, this app also has a spam reporting feature, automatically blocking spam calls and messages, which is quite useful.
Search for strange phone numbers on the Internet
You can check if the call is a scam or not by using an Internet search engine. For example, if you type a phone number into Google, the results will show a number of websites that collect spam and scam phone numbers reported by users.
In particular, if the phone number is publicly registered, when searching, you can find information related to the account owner.
Use free lookup websites
SpyDialer: This is a free lookup website that will provide detailed information about the caller. Importantly, this website does not require you to register an account, just enter the phone number you want to find and press “Search”.
Zlookup: Just like SpyDialer, this site also does not require you to register an account but will provide information about that phone number based on its own database or through some other sources to return results that match the phone number you are looking for.
Whitepages: This is not only a website that helps look up phone numbers but also a platform that allows searching for information by name as well as address. In Vietnam, since 2020, this platform has stopped disclosing personal information of phone number owners for security reasons.
However, the site still shows you information about the business using this phone number, how many times the phone number has been searched recently, and how many times this phone number has been reported as a scam or nuisance.
