Indian Parliamentary leaders appreciated the central role of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the progress and development of Vietnam as well as his role in the India-Vietnam friendship.

On the morning of July 22, before the start of the budget session, both Senate Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and House Speaker Om Birla read messages of condolences on the passing of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.
In their condolence message, Indian Parliament leaders said that during his 13 years as General Secretary, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong was respected by all walks of life in Vietnam.
The Indian Parliamentary leaders appreciated the central role of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the progress and development of Vietnam as well as his role in the India-Vietnam friendship and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
In addition, Indian Parliament leaders also emphasized that before being elected General Secretary, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong held the position of Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly and many other important positions.
On behalf of the Indian House of Representatives, Speaker Om Birla conveyed his deepest condolences to the Government of Vietnam and expressed solidarity with the people and leaders of Vietnam in this hour of grief.
Indian parliamentarians also observed a moment of silence in memory of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong./.
