Singer Tuan Canh is from Hanoi and studied at the Hanoi University of Culture and Arts. In the early 1990s, he was loved for his folk songs and often performed in many provinces from the South to the North.

In the late 1990s, Tuan Canh became the "manager" of his daughter - the once famous "child singer" Xuan Mai.

After his broken marriage with Xuan Mai's mother, Tuan Canh has lived a quiet life abroad for nearly 20 years. Recently, he received attention from the audience when he appeared on the show Nha Co Khach with Thuy Nga . The former singer shared about his journey to start a career in the US, revealing more about his new family with his future wife.

The singer of " Qua ngo nha em" said that he and guitarist Thu Thu (Xuan Mai's mother) had run out of love and divorced in 2004. He remarried his second wife while still in Vietnam.

"After that, my wife sponsored me to come to America. We have a son who is 17 years old this year. My second wife is gentle and capable. We live happily and peacefully," Tuan Canh said.

When he first came to the US, Tuan Canh and his wife lived in Hawaii. His wife's family had a nail salon but few workers, so the singer helped his wife do nails. After a few years, his family moved to California. "At that time, I was new to the industry and had to work for others for a few jobs, while my wife still did nails," Xuan Mai's father said.

During a gathering of colleagues, Tuan Canh cooked pho to treat his friends and Thuy Nga praised it as delicious. Being advised by his friends to open a pho restaurant, Tuan Canh listened and became a "lucky" boss.

For many years, his income has mainly come from selling pho and has been supported by his fellow countrymen, including many artist friends. Before getting married, "little" Xuan Mai also spent time helping her father at the pho restaurant.

"I started a pho business because when I came to America, I didn't have any other job. Moreover, cooking pho is my family's traditional profession. Since I was a child, I helped my parents cook pho. My restaurant is "lucky" to have many customers, so we have enough to eat. But running a restaurant is also hard. Until now, I still cook in the kitchen myself, not just manage like others, so it's hard," Tuan Canh said.

In addition to opening a pho restaurant, every Tet holiday, the singer of "I take you across the river" also sells banh chung. He believes that no matter where you are, you have to work to earn money, regardless of whether your job is noble or humble.

"When I first came abroad, I was confused, but I thought that if others could make a living, I could make a living too. If others could do that job, I could do it too. I didn't think I had to do something fancy. In a foreign land, as long as I don't get lazy, I don't have to worry about anything," Tuan Canh said.

Xuan Mai's father plans to work and save up so that when he retires, he can return to Vietnam to live, and not have to worry about money in his old age. "When I'm old, living in Vietnam is still better. At that time, I just need to have a small house, open a breakfast shop, and gather with friends in the afternoon," he said.

At the age of over 50, Tuan Canh does not regret the past, does not cling to his artistic career even though he has "put down the mic" for 20 years. Occasionally, he remembers the time when he first started singing in Ho Chi Minh City, calling it the time of "poor but happy". At that time, he often performed at Trong Dong stage, Lan Anh stage... He also worked in Duy Phuong and Huong Loan troupes, performing in many provinces and cities across the country.

"Now, even if I sing, it's just for fun. At this age, it's hard to return to music. I don't look to the past but to the future. Each era has its own time," the former singer believes.

Regarding his current relationship with his daughter Xuan Mai, Tuan Canh confirmed that father and daughter still maintain regular contact. Every week, his daughter makes video calls and sends pictures of her grandchildren to Tuan Canh. Occasionally, during the summer and Tet, Xuan Mai brings her family back to visit her father.

Even though they broke up, Tuan Canh and his ex-wife are still friends, and both families are close.

"My ex-wife is living with Xuan Mai. She still comes back to California occasionally and my wife also drives to pick her up and take her out. Last Tet, Xuan Mai and her mother came to my house to visit. Xuan Mai is currently in Ohio with her husband, 3 children and mother," Xuan Mai's father added.

Previously, Xuan Mai also shared about her close relationship with her father's new family. When her parents separated, she and her younger brother were still young, but she did not blame them and believed that their separation was fate.

The singer once confided in an interview: "I always respect my parents' decisions. As parents, no one wants their children to suffer because they live without one of them, but I think they have their own reasons. I never asked my mother about this, but no matter what, I always love my parents equally. I don't blame my father even though he has his own family."

Xuan Mai said that singer Tuan Canh still often cares about her and her younger brother. When she was in school, her father's family moved to live next to her school so she often saw her father.

The former child star also praised his father's second wife: "My aunt is a very good person, she also treats me and my younger brother like her own children. We treat each other like family without any discrimination. My mother and my father are now like best friends, even when my father and aunt are busy, my mother takes Steven (artist Tuan Canh's stepchild - PV) to school for me. I feel happy about that."
