From a healthcare system with many difficulties, up to now, the whole sector has made remarkable progress with 13 affiliated healthcare units, including 5 provincial-level units and 8 district-level units. The healthcare staff has been increasingly strengthened with more than 1,800 civil servants and public employees, including 540 doctors, including 283 doctors with master's degrees, specialist level I or higher. The ratio of doctors is 16.9 doctors/10,000 people, higher than the national average of 14 doctors/10,000 people; 100% of communes in the province have doctors and 100% of villages have village health workers, ensuring primary healthcare for people, especially in remote areas.

In recent years, thanks to the attention of the province and local authorities, the health sector has been invested to improve the quality of health services. 100% of communes and wards in the province are recognized as meeting national standards on commune health by 2030. Facilities at all levels have been renovated and upgraded to ensure the health care needs of the people. Bac Kan General Hospital has a scale of 500 beds, with the ability to deploy many advanced techniques in diagnosis and treatment.

In parallel, the health sector is also equipped with many modern devices such as magnetic resonance imaging machines, computed tomography machines, endoscopic surgery systems, general ultrasound machines, digital X-ray machines, endoscopic surgery systems and digestive endoscopy systems. In the period of 2020 - 2024, the total capital of more than 340 billion VND of the projects has helped invest in building and upgrading more than 40 medical facilities and equipping 155 categories of modern medical equipment for district, city and commune health centers.

Thanks to that, the work of protecting, caring for and improving people's health in the province has had remarkable changes. Basic indicators of people's health care have been improved, the implementation of health programs has met and exceeded the set targets. Population and development work has achieved many important results, helping to stabilize the replacement fertility rate, reduce the rate of increase in the sex ratio at birth and improve the quality of health care for the elderly.

In particular, the work of preventing social diseases and dangerous epidemics has many positive changes. Bac Kan province was recognized as eliminating leprosy at the provincial level in 2005 and at the district level in 2020. By 2022, Bac Kan was recognized as meeting the criteria for eliminating malaria in the whole province. During the Covid-19 epidemic, Bac Kan was the last province to have Covid-19 cases in the community and after only 3 months, it completely controlled the epidemic, while supporting the southern provinces with necessities and sending 5 medical teams to support the fight against the epidemic in Bac Giang, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

The satisfaction index of people with public health services in Bac Kan has been increasing steadily over the years, reaching 85% in 2024. This reflects the tireless efforts of the medical staff in improving the quality of medical examination and treatment. The medical staff is not only dedicated to their work but also actively participates in humanitarian activities, providing free medical examination and treatment for the poor, the elderly and families with revolutionary contributions.

Doctor Nguyen Tuan Anh - Permanent Vice President of the Provincial Young Physicians Association shared: "Medicine is a very hard profession, but my colleagues and I always arrange our work to participate in volunteer activities, contributing to community health care. We constantly study and improve our skills to serve the people well."

8 individuals were awarded the title "Meritorious Physician" for the 14th time

In recognition of the achievements, since the province's re-establishment, the Bac Kan Health sector has been honored by the State with 2 "People's Physicians", 49 "Excellent Physicians", 10 individuals were awarded the Third Class Labor Medal; hundreds of collectives and individuals were awarded certificates of merit by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health, the Provincial Party Committee, and the Provincial People's Committee.

Despite many important achievements, the sector still faces many difficulties. There is still a shortage of specialized doctors, especially at the grassroots level. Although medical equipment has been invested, it still needs to be supplemented to meet the increasing demand for medical examination and treatment of the people. The epidemic situation has many complicated developments, the risk of re-emergence of controlled infectious diseases is always present. In addition, the increase in non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer also poses a significant challenge for the health sector.

Although there are still many difficulties, with a spirit of solidarity and high responsibility, the health sector will continue to develop, meeting the increasing health care needs of the people in the area./.
