On December 20, the Party Committee and Command of Ho Chi Minh City held a meeting to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024).
At the meeting, delegates watched a documentary together to review the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day.
Over the past 80 years, under the absolute and direct leadership of the Party in all aspects; with the love, care and support of the people, inheriting and promoting the patriotism and military art of the Vietnamese people, overcoming countless hardships and challenges, the Vietnam People's Army, together with the entire people, has achieved great victories in the cause of national liberation, defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam and fulfilling its glorious international obligations.
Speaking at the meeting, Major General Phan Van Xung, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Military Party Committee, Political Commissar of the Ho Chi Minh City Command, said that the Ho Chi Minh City Armed Forces were established on September 4, 1945. Inheriting and promoting the 80-year tradition of the Vietnam People's Army, after 79 years of construction, fighting and growing, the city's armed forces have continuously grown, achieved many feats, and embellished the revolutionary tradition of the homeland and the nation. Thereby, building the tradition of "Infinite loyalty, steadfastness, solidarity, discipline, dynamism and creativity, determination to fight and win".
In addition, the HCM City Military Region always plays a core role in advising on building a strong national defense and a solid defense zone; strictly maintaining combat readiness; proactively coordinating forces to grasp, assess, and forecast the situation closely and accurately, handle it promptly and effectively, and avoid being passive or surprised in any situation.
The HCM City People's Army is also the leading force in search and rescue, natural disaster and epidemic prevention and control, and helping the people; actively participating in building a strong political base, making very practical contributions to the city's development.
In 2025, the City Party Committee and Command will continue to promote their roles and effectively carry out key tasks. In the immediate future, the leadership and direction will be determined to successfully complete the targets and tasks of the Resolution of the 12th City Military Party Congress; well prepare and successfully organize the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term and the 13th City Military Party Congress.
With the above achievements, the city's armed forces are being proposed by the competent authority to the Party and State to confer the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces for the third time.
