According to information, Can Tho General Hospital has a total of 36 departments and functional rooms, and is a grade 1 hospital under the Can Tho Department of Health.
In the past, there were 10 departments and offices that had not yet appointed department heads: departments of general planning, personnel organization, administrative management, medical supplies and equipment; line direction - training, social work; departments of internal medicine - neurology - musculoskeletal system, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and nutrition.
The reason why departments lack leadership positions is explained by the fact that recently the heads of the above departments and offices have quit their jobs or retired, making re-appointment difficult.
According to a hospital leader, the re-appointment of the current position of department head and deputy head is decided by the hospital's board of directors. However, for many reasons, the appointment process is prolonged. The hospital does not have a director (currently the deputy director is in charge), the candidates introduced for the positions are not qualified, and the vote of confidence has not been achieved...
Regarding the position of hospital director, the Can Tho City Department of Health said that recently, Mr. Tran Quoc Luan - Director of Can Tho City General Hospital - requested medical leave and was approved by the competent authority. The first leave was for 6 months (from June 1, 2023 to November 30, 2023), the second leave was for 3 months (from December 1, 2023 to February 29, 2024).
During this time, Mr. Huynh Minh Phu - Deputy Director of Can Tho General Hospital - was assigned to be in charge of and operate the hospital. Because the hospital director's sick leave was divided into 2 periods, the extension of this temporary position was also divided into 6 months and 3 months, and was handled by the City Party Committee's organization.
In the coming time, when the hospital director's sick leave ends, the leader of the Department of Health said that the reappointment of the hospital director must wait for the conclusion of the investigation agency of Can Tho City Police, regarding the case related to the purchase of COVID-19 prevention test kits by Viet A Company that occurred at Can Tho City General Hospital.
Regarding the shortage of drugs, medical supplies, and slow repair of damaged machinery, hospital leaders said that due to general difficulties in personnel work, bidding for the purchase of drugs, chemicals, equipment, and supplies, and issues related to hiring services for hospital operations (cleaning, security, canteen) were also difficult, leading to delays.
To resolve the situation of slow appointment of heads of departments and functional departments of the hospital, the leaders of the Department of Health said that they had held working sessions with the board of directors of Can Tho General Hospital, requesting immediate solutions by assigning hospital leaders to be responsible for each department; quickly mobilizing and appointing heads of departments and offices to ensure standards according to regulations; quickly carrying out bidding procedures for repairing machinery, purchasing drugs, chemicals, etc.
