Russian special forces soldiers inspect the wreckage of a Ukrainian Abrams tank that was shot down near the village of Berdychi, revealing that the interior of the vehicle is almost intact.
Russian media today released video from helmet-mounted cameras of special forces scouts nicknamed "Izay" and "Leshy" of the Central Army, recording the scene of them approaching and searching a Ukrainian M1A1SA Abrams tank near the village of Berdychi, northwest of the city of Avdeevka in Donetsk province.
This is the second Ukrainian Abrams to be disabled in combat. Russian soldiers used an RPG to cut off the tank’s tracks before it was attacked by a suicide drone crew from the 30th Independent Mechanized Infantry Brigade.
"We were tasked with checking the condition of the vehicle, determining whether it was intact or burned inside, as well as collecting as much equipment as possible from the vehicle," Leshy said.

The two Russian soldiers admitted that it was not easy to reach the wreckage of the Abrams tank, due to its proximity to Ukrainian positions. Neither side could deploy mechanized vehicles to pull the M1A1SA from the scene, due to the constant presence of enemy artillery and suicide drones.
“Any vehicle that comes close to the Abrams will suffer the same fate as it. There is no reason to waste that much equipment,” Izay said.
In the video, Izay runs to the wreckage of the Abrams, climbs aboard, and climbs into the turret, while Leshy stands guard and provides cover for his teammates. A series of cannon and gunfire can be heard as Izay inspects the interior of the Abrams.
The footage, filmed by the soldier, shows the Abrams tank with its tracks broken, but its interior largely intact.
"We decided to move during the day. The most dangerous area was the 30-50 meter long open area from the houses to the tank wreckage. We had to run as fast as we could to avoid being hit by machine gun fire, as the fighting was only 150-200 meters away," Leshy said.
The Russian task force did not reveal what they had learned from the Abrams, but said it was “nothing special” compared to the Russian T-90 tank. “I expected more,” Izay said.
The Russian Defense Ministry has so far claimed to have destroyed three Ukrainian Abrams tanks, one of which was knocked out by a T-72B3 tank with the first shot.
Western media reported that the M1 Abrams tanks Ukraine received from the US were “not new” and had been stripped of all the most sensitive technology, including armor made of depleted uranium alloys. This made them more vulnerable to many common anti-tank missiles.
