That is one of the information given by Mr. Tran Ngoc Tam - Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee - at the workshop "New energy and renewable energy potential and investment resources" in Ben Tre province on October 2.
According to Mr. Tam, Ben Tre province is gradually expanding its development space to the east with economic types, in which the energy industry is one of the important driving forces of growth.
Right from the beginning of the 2020 - 2025 term, Ben Tre province has also identified the task of implementing wind power projects and aiming to build a new energy industry as one of 11 key projects to focus on prioritizing support resources.
Mr. Tam said that with a 65km long coastline, Ben Tre province has great potential to develop renewable energy and new energy projects.
Up to now, Ben Tre province has granted investment policies and focused on implementing 19 wind power projects with a total capacity of 1,007.7 MW. Of which, 9 projects have completed basic construction and installation with a total installed capacity of 365.9 MW. 250.75 MW have been commercially operated, the remaining installed capacity is 115.15 MW, the investor is completing legal procedures to negotiate electricity prices with Vietnam Electricity Group.
"The province also identified the energy transition from the available potential of renewable energy such as wind power, solar power and especially offshore wind power in the form of self-production and self-consumption without connection to the grid to produce new energy sources such as hydrogen. This type is identified as one of the key industries that Ben Tre will focus on developing in the coming years," said Mr. Tam.
At the workshop, many foreign investors and experts presented many green energy solutions and introduced many technologies suitable for Ben Tre province.
Speaking at the workshop, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh affirmed that the transition to green economic development is an inevitable trend and the goal that Vietnam is aiming for in order to implement the development orientation in the spirit of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.
"By 2030, our country will need 150,000 MW of electricity to develop the economy, but at present there is only over 80,000 MW. Thus, in the next 5 years, our country must develop an amount of electricity nearly equal to the amount of electricity accumulated in the past decades. That is a challenge but also opens up great opportunities for investors," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highly appreciated the striving spirit and aspirations of the entire political system and people of Ben Tre province. However, he noted that Ben Tre province's selection of renewable energy, green energy, especially wind power, offshore wind power, as a key industry to focus on development in the coming time needs to be further studied and considered for appropriate direction.
