Vietnamese bread has just been listed in the list of 24 best sandwiches in the world by CNN. This rustic dish was also recently honored as the only representative of Vietnam to be included in the top 100 best dishes in the world by the online travel guide Taste Atlas - considered a "global culinary map". With a crispy outer shell, a thick filling with salty, spicy, aromatic, fatty flavors... bread has brought the culinary story of Vietnam to the world.

A variation of the Baguette - a long, crispy loaf of bread, often served with pate and butter, which the French brought to Vietnam in the second half of the 19th century, the famous sandwich, "anyone coming to the S-shaped country must try it once", is adapted to the typical culinary flavors of the Vietnamese people.

CNN - America's leading television channel recently announced a list of 24 best sandwiches in the world, in which Vietnam is represented by sandwiches. CNN's criteria for voting for the top famous delicacies in the world include: being a famous sandwich, representing each country, being praised by many people, having a delicious, unique flavor, and being loved by the locals in that place.

Depending on the region, visitors to Vietnam can enjoy many types of sandwiches with a variety of fillings. A traditional sandwich used to be filled with pate, ham, pickles, coriander, etc., but today the possibilities for variation are almost limitless - sandwiches now include cold cuts, chicken, beef, French butter, fresh mayonnaise, etc. and perhaps this list will continue to grow.

Thanks to its convenience, deliciousness, cheapness, and multiculturalism, banh mi easily finds a place in big cities like Saigon, Hanoi, etc., becoming an indispensable dish in the daily life of Vietnamese people. The variety of fillings and spices - things that foreigners are not familiar with - may be the secret that makes banh mi famous and loved by friends all over the world.

This is not the first time Vietnamese bread has been praised by international news agencies. The National Geographic magazine (USA) once voted it "The best street food in the world". Meanwhile, the Guardian newspaper of the UK also described the "best bread in the world" on the streets of Vietnam as a baguette grilled over charcoal, with a thin layer of pate, filled with meat inside, pickles and herbs, and served with sauce or hot chili. People can easily find sandwiches anywhere, from street corners, popular markets, hidden in alleys or in spacious shops in the city center. Bread has penetrated every corner of the culinary life of Vietnamese people.

“Loving” international visitors, banh mi has gone beyond the borders of Vietnam, as Vietnamese-branded sandwich shops are springing up all over the world. In 2011, “banh mi” was officially included in the Oxford dictionary, marking a proud milestone of Vietnamese cuisine.
