After 25 years in the business world, Ms. Dinh Thi Mai - Director of Ngoc Quy Doan Company Limited (Huong Khe - Ha Tinh) has demonstrated the mettle of a businesswoman in the wood industry.
Ms. Dinh Thi Mai (born in 1968) became involved in carpentry after marrying Mr. Doan Huu Nhung (born in 1966) – a native of Huong Tra commune (Huong Khe). In 1994, when they first started their career, Ms. Mai and her husband opened a local carpentry shop.

In 1996, when the Huong Khe District Vocational Training Center (Huong Khe Town) opened a carpentry class, the couple packed up and went to the mountain town to work as school security guards and vocational teachers. At that time, Ms. Mai also attended a course at Vinh Technical Pedagogical College to equip herself with more knowledge for her future career.
After 2 years of teaching carpentry at the Huong Khe District Vocational Training Center, Mrs. Mai and her husband hatched a plan to start a business and open a family carpentry workshop. Thinking and doing, Mrs. Mai went to the North alone to find workers in the Nam Dinh region to work for her production facility.

“At that time, the carpentry profession in Huong Khe was not yet developed, and the workers’ skills were not high. After being told by people in the industry that the carpenters in Nam Dinh were good, I went to each carpentry workshop there to find workers to hire. This was the unique direction that helped my husband and I build our brand and gain a foothold in the market. Initially, we only hired a few workers, but now, my facility has nearly a dozen workers from the North. Some of them have been with us for over 25 years and consider each other as family members,” Ms. Mai shared.
Having hired a team of highly skilled workers from famous carpentry kilns in Nam Dinh, Ms. Mai boldly borrowed capital from the bank to invest in developing production and business. In 2019, she established Ngoc Quy Doan Company Limited, specializing in the production, trading and construction of wooden furniture. The company currently has 2 production facilities, 1 showroom with a scale of nearly 2,000 m2 ; charter capital of over 3 billion VND; average annual revenue of over 4 billion VND, after-tax profit of over 150 million VND. The company is creating regular jobs for 15 employees with an average salary of 15 - 20 million VND/person/month. At peak times, the company also creates seasonal jobs for 10 - 15 local workers.

Concerned and responsible for the community, in April 2022, Ngoc Quy Doan Company Limited coordinated with Ha Tinh Provincial Police Detention Center to deploy a carpentry training model for prisoners serving their sentences at the camp. Up to now, the company has coordinated to train hundreds of prisoners in carpentry, thereby helping them receive vocational training to reintegrate into the community. For more than a year, Ms. Mai has also sponsored Nguyen Quynh Chi (born 2011 in Gia Pho commune, Huong Khe) - an orphan in especially difficult circumstances with a support level of 500,000 VND/month.
Not only is she a good businesswoman, enthusiastic about charity work, Ms. Dinh Thi Mai is also the chairwoman of the Huong Khe District Women Entrepreneurs Club and a member of the Executive Committee of the Ha Tinh Women Entrepreneurs Association. Ms. Mai has actively attracted members to participate in association activities; accompanied members in creating, starting businesses and implementing humanitarian and charitable activities. To date, the Huong Khe District Women Entrepreneurs Club has 50 members, an increase of 30% compared to last year. The club also sponsors 5 orphans in the area with a support level of 500,000 VND/child/month.
