Increase income for farmers

The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program has been implemented by Hanoi City since 2019. Implementing the program, one of the models that Ba Vi district focuses on is developing hill chicken farming. The whole Ba Vi district has 180 large-scale poultry farms, chicken farming accounts for a large proportion with a total herd of 5.7 million birds. Communes such as Cam Linh, Thuy An, Ba Trai, Cam Thuong... are typical localities with the number of chickens from 2,000 - 10,000 birds/farm. Every year, the output of chickens for sale reaches tens of thousands of tons, supplying the Hanoi market and neighboring provinces.

The production process of Ba Vi hill chicken is strictly controlled, ensuring food hygiene and safety standards and traceability; consumed through large supermarket chains and safe food stores. Cooperatives and Livestock Associations in the area also play a connecting role, helping people sign consumption contracts, with stable prices from 80,000 - 100,000 VND/kg. In particular, Ba Vi salted chicken has become a prominent OCOP product thanks to the processing process ensuring strict standards.

Along with hill chicken, dairy products are also focused on development by the locality. Director of Ba Vi Milk Joint Stock Company Le Hoang Vinh said: The company is producing about 20 different types of products, belonging to 8 main product lines. The company's products are produced and managed to meet the strictest food safety and hygiene standards. The entire operating system is implemented according to ISO 9001 - 2005 standards. Currently, the company has 11 products that have been evaluated, classified and decided to be recognized as 4-star OCOP products by the Hanoi People's Committee, consumed nationwide, especially at tourist destinations. Currently, Ba Vi Milk Joint Stock Company is supporting the purchase of milk for 200 households, helping dairy farmers have a stable income.

Nguyen Giap Dong, Head of the District Economic Department, said: Up to now, Ba Vi district has 186 products from 50 participating units that have been recognized as achieving 3-4 stars. The recognized products are mainly fresh milk, dairy products, hill chicken, meat, ostrich ham, vegetables of all kinds, sweet potatoes, vermicelli, products processed from traditional medicine villages, etc. In recent times, in order to develop OCOP products sustainably, the district has focused on trade promotion and digital transformation; organizing fairs, agricultural markets, bringing OCOP products to e-commerce platforms. Livestream sales activities via TikTok and social networks have also been implemented, helping Ba Vi agricultural products reach consumers more widely. Not stopping at increasing the quantity of OCOP products, the district also focuses on improving quality, diversifying products, meeting consumer tastes; at the same time, promoting promotional activities on digital platforms to attract customers from all over the country.

Deploying many solutions to support OCOP subjects

After a long period of implementation, the OCOP Program has spread throughout the area. This result is thanks to the district's attention to exploiting local resources and supporting entities with potential OCOP products to standardize their products. From that support, entities are more concerned about product quality control, trademark protection, and the application of information technology in management and sales.

To support producers in consuming OCOP products, the district has developed 5 points of introduction and sale of OCOP products, and regularly coordinates with the Hanoi New Rural Office to organize the Fair of rural industrial products and OCOP products. Through the fair, display, promote, introduce, and connect trade of OCOP products in districts of the city and localities nationwide. Along with that, connecting trade of OCOP products to supermarket systems, safe agricultural and food businesses, handicraft businesses, and points of introduction and sale of OCOP products, so that consumers in the capital, domestically and Ba Vi district can identify the brand and link to consume OCOP products.

In addition to supporting, guiding and training OCOP subjects, the District People's Committee has established the Ba Vi District OCOP Club with 34 members, which is a place to connect members and support in solving difficulties in production and business. According to Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee Tran Quang Khuyen: the establishment and launch of the Ba Vi District OCOP Club aims to develop the district's key products, create a forum for good production and business households, cooperatives, business owners, individuals operating in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fishery, subjects with OCOP products in the district to exchange experiences, link and help each other in production, processing and consumption of products.
