On the afternoon of March 26, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man welcomed Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on his official visit to Vietnam, emphasizing that the Prime Minister's visit, along with General Secretary To Lam's recent official visit to Singapore in the year when the two countries celebrated important events such as the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day, the 60th anniversary of Singapore's National Day, and the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN, were vivid manifestations of the trustful and close political relationship between the two countries. The National Assembly Chairman assessed that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a milestone in the relationship between the two countries.

The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated Singapore's role in supporting Vietnam in developing a market economy and international integration, and Singapore's experiences, especially policies on building a rule-of-law state, developing a knowledge-based economy, innovation and sustainable development.

The National Assembly Chairman expressed his delight at witnessing the increasingly positive and substantive development of the bilateral relationship over the past 50 years in all areas, especially in the economic, trade and investment fields, with bilateral trade turnover reaching 10.3 billion USD in 2024. Singapore is currently the second largest investment partner in Vietnam with a total accumulated investment capital exceeding 80 billion USD, of which the Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIPs) are considered a successful cooperation model.

The National Assembly Chairman also acknowledged positive progress in cooperation in defense - security, education - training, science - technology, tourism, labor and people-to-people exchange.

Sharing the recent contributions of the cooperation channel between the Vietnamese and Singaporean National Assemblies, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the two National Assemblies are coordinating and effectively implementing the Cooperation Agreement between the Vietnamese and Singaporean National Assemblies (signed in May 2022) as well as the common perception between the two sides during the National Assembly Chairman's visit to Singapore in December 2024.

In particular, the two sides focus on maintaining delegation exchanges and high-level contacts, exchanges between the Committees, agencies of the National Assembly, Friendship Parliamentarians’ Groups, young parliamentarians, and female parliamentarians of the two countries; sharing experiences in law-making and supervising the implementation of laws; agreeing to coordinate in supervising and promoting cooperation agreements signed between the two countries. The two National Assemblies will regularly consult and support each other at international and regional inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong expressed his impression of Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements in recent times, especially the maintenance of high and stable economic growth in the context of many fluctuations in the world and the region; emphasized cooperation in new areas such as food security, green economy, digital transformation, renewable energy; development and construction of Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP) 2.0.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong appreciated the role of the Vietnamese National Assembly in building a favorable legal framework for socio-economic development and international cooperation; affirmed that Singapore attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam in all areas, including cooperation between the two legislative bodies.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP); at the same time, he affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly will create a favorable environment for Singaporean enterprises in particular and foreign investors operating in Vietnam.

Believing that in the coming period, the two countries will further expand and improve the quality of economic and trade cooperation, the National Assembly Chairman stated that Vietnam wishes to learn from Singapore's development experience in building an innovation ecosystem, digital transformation and developing high-quality human resources; and is ready to create all favorable conditions for Singaporean enterprises to expand investment in Vietnam, especially in the fields of advanced technology, renewable energy and supporting industries with high added value.

At the meeting, the two leaders emphasized the importance of building a united and self-reliant ASEAN community, promoting the central role of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA); continuing to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums and organizations, including regional and international inter-parliamentary forums; maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, and resolving disputes by peaceful means in the East Sea.
