Fears about AI are growing as the media is filled with warnings from experts that AI could replace humans, leaving many even well-trained people at risk of becoming useless.
Spreading fear about AI
Recently, many domestic experts predict that AI can replace humans in the next few years or make many people useless despite proper training.
The fear of AI replacing humans in the future is making many students confused, not knowing which major and which school to choose to avoid being eliminated.
An expert in the field of technology and AI said he receives many questions from students and parents about what major they should study to avoid being replaced by AI.
Many people worry about whether their jobs will still exist after graduation, or whether they should continue pursuing their current field of study when there is an opinion that it will soon be overtaken by AI.
Nguyen Hoang Thanh, a social science student in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his concerns about whether he should continue pursuing his major or not when many people believe that this field could be replaced by AI in the future. Thanh is also considering changing majors to increase his job opportunities after graduation.
Similarly, Tran Hai Minh, a 12th grade student in Ho Chi Minh City, is also worried about choosing the right university major.
"I really don't know what major to choose right now. If I study programming, experts say AI will replace it. The same goes for office and consulting-related majors. Choosing a university is really too difficult for me right now," Minh shared.
AI helps improve performance and create new value but cannot replace humans.
According to Mr. Dao Trung Thanh, Deputy Director of the Blockchain Technology and Artificial Intelligence Institute (ABAII), no industry is completely immune to the impact of AI. However, humans can maintain a competitive advantage thanks to important skills such as critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, adaptability and communication. These skills not only help humans work effectively with AI but also maximize the potential of technology to improve performance and create new values.
He emphasized that industries that rely on repetitive processes and are easily automated will be most affected, while fields that require creativity, strategic thinking, and human interaction will remain important. AI is already creating significant changes, but the level of impact varies from industry to industry and from individual to individual. The core issue is not the existence of AI, but how people respond to its development. Instead of being afraid, we need to proactively learn, understand, and adapt to AI as an inevitable part of the future.
The Deputy Director of ABAII affirmed that AI will not immediately replace humans, but it is gradually changing the way we work. If we know how to utilize AI as a support tool, humans can increase productivity and focus on tasks that bring higher value. He also noted that AI can outperform humans in certain areas, especially jobs that can be encoded into algorithms. However, that does not mean that humans become redundant, because AI can process data quickly but does not have intuition, emotion or real creativity.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Do Thanh Ha, Business Development Director of Aicontent platform, said that AI should be considered a powerful support tool instead of a threat to replace humans. AI is capable of taking on repetitive, procedural and uncreative tasks, thereby promoting automation and optimizing labor performance. However, he emphasized that human intelligence is not only the ability to analyze and process data, but also includes emotional intelligence, understanding human needs and behaviors. AI can read and analyze big data but cannot fully grasp the context, hidden meaning or cultural diversity.
In this transition period, AI is contributing to optimizing performance, resulting in businesses eliminating employees who do not create much value, especially in repetitive, low-change jobs. Therefore, according to Mr. Do Thanh Ha, instead of worrying (FOMO), people should focus on developing their own values, practicing important skills such as creativity, connection and understanding. Mastering the use of AI as a tool will help each individual increase their value and competitiveness in the labor market.
Mr. Dang Huu Son, co-founder of Lovinbot, also agreed that AI helps businesses cut costs and optimize work performance. If each employee increases their productivity by 10% thanks to AI every week or every month, the entire organization will have significant growth. However, according to him, leaders cannot rely entirely on AI to gain a competitive advantage. Instead, the decisive factor is still the product and the internal capacity of the business, while AI only plays a supporting role.
